Yanakie, Victoria
Yanakie is a small, coastal township and district on the Yanakie Isthmus in South Gippsland, in the state of Victoria, south-eastern Australia. Yanakie is a Koori name from the Gunai language interpreted as meaning "between waters". Description As the nearest town to the major tourist destination of Wilsons Promontory National Park, Yanakie has several accommodation options including caravan parks with boat ramps, self-contained cabins, like Coastal View Cabins, B&Bs, houses for rent and two camping/caravan sites. There is a licensed general store with a fuel outlet, a CFA station, a pizza/cafe and a community hall, with a “Settlers Hut” complete with open fire and dirt floor. The County of Buln Buln is one of the 37 counties of Victoria which are part of the cadastral divisions of Australia, used for land titles. It was first proclaimed in government gazette on 24 Feb 1871 together with others from the Gipps Land District. It includes Wilsons Promontory, and the Victorian coast from around Venus Bay in the west to Lake Wellington in the east. Sale is near its north-eastern edge. Toora Wind Farm
Toora Wind Farm is a wind power station at Toora in South Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. It is located north of Wilsons Promontory and 150 km south-east of Melbourne. The wind farm is on a ridge overlooking the town of Toora. Toora has 12 wind turbines, each of 1.75 MW rated capacity, with a total generating capacity of 21 MW of electricity. Vestas Wind Systems completed the power station in 2002. In November 2007, Transfield Services Infrastructure Fund acquired the wind farm from the Government of Queensland. Shallow Inlet
Shallow Inlet is a marine inlet, opening onto Waratah Bay on the western side of the Yanakie Isthmus in South Gippsland, Victoria, south-eastern Australia. It lies close to the small holiday communities of Sandy Point and Yanakie, as well as to Wilsons Promontory and the Wilsons Promontory National Park. Description The inlet is a shallow, curving, 18 km2 tidal embayment with a single channel to the sea. On the seaward side it is enclosed by a barrier of sandy spits, bars and mobile dunes. Corner Inlet
The Corner Inlet is a bay located south-east of Melbourne in the South Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia. Of Victoria's large bays it is both the easternmost and the warmest. It contains intertidal mudflats, mangroves, salt marsh and seagrass meadows, sheltered from the surf of Bass Strait by a complex of 40 sandy barrier islands, the largest of which are Snake, Sunday and Saint Margaret Islands. The inlet is protected as a Ramsar site by the Nooramunga and Corner Inlet Marine and Coastal Parks, and by part of it lying within the Corner Inlet Marine National Park. The Wilsons Promontory National Park, commonly known as Wilsons Prom or The Prom, is a national park in the Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia, located approximately southeast of Melbourne. The national park is the southernmost national park on mainland Australia, known for its rainforests, beaches and abundant wildlife.
