Yamsk (russian: Ямск) is a rural locality (a '' selo'') and a port in Olsky District of Magadan Oblast, Russia, located some east of Magadan, the administrative center of the oblast. Yam Bay
Yam Bay (russian: Ямская губа; ''Yamskaya Guba'') is a small bay in the northeastern Sea of Okhotsk. It is located at the southwestern end of the Shelikhov Gulf. To its southeast lie the Yam Islands. River Yama has its mouth in the bay in the Perevolochny estuary by Yamsk. Geography and climate Yam Bay is entered between Capes Iretsky to the north and Keytevan to the south, which are separated by 33.8 km (about 21 mi). The high entrance points of the bay merge into a low shore to the west, with tundra plains beyond. From June to the first half of August, winds in the bay are seldom stronger than a fresh breeze, but occasionally reach gale force. Calms prevail in the latter half of August and first part of September. Northeast winds begin in late September, with storms common. Fog is fairly rare. Yama (river)
The Yama ( rus, Яма) is a river in Magadan Oblast, Russian Far East. It is long, with a drainage basin of . The R504 Kolyma Highway passes just west of the sources of the Yama. Magadan Oblast
Magadan Oblast ( rus, Магаданская область, r=Magadanskaya oblast, p=məgɐˈdanskəjə ˈobləsʲtʲ) is a federal subject (an oblast) of Russia. It is geographically located in the Far East region of the country, and is administratively part of the Far Eastern Federal District. Shelikhov Gulf
Shelikhov Gulf (russian: залив Шелихова) is a large gulf off the northwestern coast of Kamchatka, Russia. The gulf is named after Russian explorer Grigory Shelikhov. It is located in the northeastern corner of the Sea of Okhotsk and it branches into two main arms, Gizhigin Bay to the west and Penzhina Bay to the east. Its southwest corner is formed by the P'yagin Peninsula, Yam Bay and the Yamsky Islands. The Shelikhov Gulf should not be confused with much smaller Shelikhov Bay (Bukhta Shelikhova, 50.3764N, 155.62E), which is also in the Sea of Okhotsk on the northwestern coast of Paramushir Island. The classification system of inhabited localities in Russia and some other post-Soviet states has certain peculiarities compared with those in other countries. Classes During the Soviet time, each of the republics of the Soviet Union, including the Russian SFSR, had its own legislative documents dealing with classification of inhabited localities. Magadan
Magadan ( rus, Магадан, p=məɡɐˈdan) is a port town and the administrative center of Magadan Oblast, Russia, located on the Sea of Okhotsk in Nagayev Bay (within Taui Bay) and serving as a gateway to the Kolyma region. Sandspit (landform)
A spit or sandspit is a deposition bar or beach landform off coasts or lake shores. It develops in places where re-entrance occurs, such as at a cove's headlands, by the process of longshore drift by longshore currents. The drift occurs due to waves meeting the beach at an oblique angle, moving sediment down the beach in a zigzag pattern. This is complemented by longshore currents, which further transport sediment through the water alongside the beach. These currents are caused by the same waves that cause the drift. Hydrology and geology Where the direction of the shore inland ''re-enters'', or changes direction, for example at a headland, the longshore current spreads out or dissipates.
