Yale Sustainable Food Project
The Yale Sustainable Food Program (YSFP) serves as a hub for the study of topics in sustainable food and agriculture at Yale University. Founded as the Yale Sustainable Food Project in 2001, the YSFP runs a campus teaching farm, supports a range of different curricular and extra-curricular study opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students, and provides fellowships, awards, and grants for international and professional experience for Yale students. History In 2001, Yale students, faculty, and staff, President Richard Levin, and chef Alice Waters founded the YSFP with a focus on launching a sustainable dining program. The YSFP's pilot sustainable dining program at Berkeley College (Yale University), Berkeley College received accolades from the ''Wall Street Journal'' as the best college dining hall in the country. Wooster Square
Wooster Square is a neighborhood in the city of New Haven, Connecticut to the east of downtown. The name refers to a park square (named for the American Revolutionary War hero, David Wooster) located between Greene Street, Wooster Place, Chapel Street and Academy Street in the center of the neighborhood. Wooster Square is also known as Little Italy: a bastion of Italian American culture and cuisine, and is home to some of New Haven's (and the country's), best-known pizza (specifically, apizza) eateries, including Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana and Sally's Apizza. King Corn (film)
''King Corn'' is a documentary film released in October 2007 that follows college friends Ian Cheney and Curtis Ellis (directed by Aaron Woolf) as they move from Boston to Greene, Iowa to grow and farm an acre of corn. Coincidentally, the trip also takes them back to where both of their families have roots. In the process, Cheney and Ellis examine the trend of increased corn production and its effects on American society, highlighting the role of government subsidies in encouraging the huge amount of corn grown. Furthermore, by studying the food economy through the history of corn in America, the two realize most foods contain corn in some form. The film shows how industrialization in corn has all but eliminated the image of the family farm, which is being replaced by larger industrial farms. Harold McGee
Harold James McGee (born October 3, 1951) is an American author who writes about the chemistry and history of food science and cooking. He is best known for his seminal book '' On Food and Cooking: The Science and Lore of the Kitchen'' first published in 1984'' On Food and Cooking: The Science and Lore of the Kitchen'' (1984) and revised in 2004.
