Yale Bulldogs Men's Lacrosse
The Yale Bulldogs men's lacrosse team represents Yale University in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I men's lacrosse. Yale competes as a member of the Ivy League and plays their home games at Reese Stadium in New Haven, Connecticut. The Bulldogs have captured the Ivy League championship five times. Yale is credited, alongside Harvard and Princeton, with the 1883 national championship. On May 28, 2018, the Bulldogs defeated Duke to claim their second ever national title and first NCAA championship in the sport. Yale returned to the championship game the following year, but lost to the Virginia Cavaliers in the 2019 championship final. 1971 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship
The 1971 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship was the first Division I NCAA men's lacrosse tournament. Prior to this the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) had voted for the national champion and, subsequently, awarded the Wingate Memorial Trophy for the College lacrosse title based on regular season records. Eight NCAA Division I college men's college lacrosse, lacrosse teams met after having played their way through a regular season. The tournament culminated with the finals, held at Hofstra University in front of 5,458 fans. For this tournament as well as the 1972 tournament, the Wingate Memorial Trophy was presented to the winner. College lacrosse at that time was broken into four divisions, so the NCAA tournament games for that year were based on geographical fit rather than seeding. 2012 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship
The 2012 NCAA Division I lacrosse tournament was the 42nd annual NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship, tournament hosted by the National Collegiate Athletic Association to determine the team champion of men's college lacrosse among its NCAA Division I, Division I programs, held at the end of the 2012 NCAA Division I men's lacrosse season. The tournament was played from May 12–28, 2012. Loyola Greyhounds men's lacrosse, Loyola Maryland won their first ever NCAA lacrosse title, defeating unseeded Maryland Terrapins men's lacrosse, Maryland, 9–3. Despite beginning the season unranked, the Greyhounds became the ninth school to win an NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse championship since tournament play began in 1971. The rating percentage index, commonly known as the RPI, is a quantity used to rank sports teams based upon a team's wins and losses and its strength of schedule. It is one of the sports rating systems by which NCAA basketball, baseball, softball, hockey, soccer, lacrosse, and volleyball teams are ranked. This system was in use from 1981 through 2018 to aid in the selecting and seeding of teams appearing in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament as well as in the women's tournament from its inception in 1982 through 2020. During the 2018 offseason, the NCAA announced that the RPI would no longer be used in the selection process for the Division I men's basketball tournament. The Syracuse Orange men's lacrosse team represents Syracuse University in NCAA Division I men's college lacrosse. The 1992 tournament championship game was played on May 25, 1992, at Franklin Field in front of 13,150 fans. Princeton completed a 13 and 2 season by defeating Syracuse in two overtime, 10-9, to win the Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship. Tournament overview The win marked the first NCAA tournament title for Princeton, but seventh overall college lacrosse national championship. The Tigers upset top-ranked Syracuse who were playing in their fourth Division I final in the prior five years. Syracuse, which had come back from a six goal deficit, lost on Andy Moe's fourth goal of the game nine seconds into the second sudden-death overtime. Loyola Greyhounds Men's Lacrosse
The Loyola Greyhounds men's lacrosse team represents Loyola University Maryland in NCAA Division I lacrosse. Its home matches are played at the Ridley Athletic Complex. Charley Toomey has served as its head coach since 2006. It became a member of the Patriot League along with the university's other intercollegiate athletic programs on July 1, 2013.
