Yahir Othón Parra (born 21 March 1979), simply known as Yahir, is a Mexican singer and actor from Hermosillo, Sonora. He began his career as one of the participants in the music reality show ''La Academia'' in 2002 and in addition to Yuridia, also from Hermosillo, is one of the most popular stars to come from the show. He became a judge of the show's tenth season. Personal life Yahir's mother converted from Roman Catholicism to Jehovah's Witnesses, and although he was brought up in his mother's faith he no longer practices it. He says that despite their differing beliefs his mother is now one of his biggest fans. Career His first hit single was a cover of Italian singer Tiziano Ferro's biggest hit in Mexico, "Alucinado", taken from his first album "Yahir" in 2003. His next album, "Otra Historia De Amor" in 2004 produced the hit single "La Locura". La Academia
''La Academia'' (''The Academy'') is a Mexican reality musical talent television series shown on Azteca, that premiered in June 2002 and is currently in its thirteenth installment. Although the show itself is not affiliated with the Endemol franchise, which includes the "Star Academy" shows, it does share the competition format of many of the variants of the global franchise. Over the first seasons, the show was a reliable dominator of its time-slot, which was shown by its triumph over Televisa's ''Operación Triunfo Mexico'', in several countries including Chile, Peru and Venezuela. The rival show was only produced for one season, and was in fact the official Endemol entry in Mexico. ''La Voz'' (Spanish for ''The Voice'') is a Mexican singing Reality competition, competition television series broadcast on Azteca Uno. The show originally premiered September 11, 2011 on Las Estrellas. It is based on the format of ''The Voice of Holland'' originated in the Netherlands and part of the international franchise ''The Voice (franchise), The Voice'' created by television producer John de Mol.
