Yagiyama Zoological Park Station
is a subway station on the Sendai Subway Tōzai Line in Taihaku-ku, Sendai, Japan, operated by the municipal subway operator Sendai City Transportation Bureau. It is located near and named for the Sendai Yagiyama Zoological Park. Lines Yagiyama Zoological Park Station is served by the Sendai Subway Tōzai Line, and forms the western terminus of the line. The station is numbered "T01". Station layout The station has one island platform serving two tracks on the third basement ("B3F") level. The ticket barriers are located on the second basement ("B2F") level. The station is located at an elevation of , making it the highest underground station in Japan. Island Platform
An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. They are also useful within larger stations where local and express services for the same direction of travel can be provided from opposite sides of the same platform thereby simplifying transfers between the two tracks.
