Yacht Club Santo Stefano
The Yacht Club Santo Stefano (YCSS) is a sport club founded in 1960. The first clubhouse was an old brig, called ''Spluga'', moored in the harbor of Porto Santo Stefano, in Italy. This original home, over the years became the meeting place of many important people at that time attending the Argentario peninsula, including the King and Queen of the Netherlands. Currently the site is hosted at the club house Cortesini in Porto Santo Stefano in the Province of Grosseto. The burgee of the club consists of a blue triangle with four stars inside: green, red, yellow, white. The current president is Piero Chiozzi. Among the events and races organized by the Yacht club we can cite: Pasquavela, which is one of the most important races in the sports landscape of Italian sailing, and the Argentario Sailing Week, held in the beautiful setting of the old port, which involves the historic sailing ships from around the world. Porto Santo Stefano
Porto Santo Stefano () is a seaport town on the west coast of Italy, in the municipality of Monte Argentario, in the Province of Grosseto, Tuscany. It is the municipal seat of Monte Argentario and one of the two major towns that form the township, along with Porto Ercole. The region is on the slopes of Mount Argentario, which dominates the whole area. Porto Santo Stefano is 150 kilometres (95 miles) northwest of Rome. Monte Argentario
Monte Argentario is a '' comune'' (municipality) and a peninsula belonging to the Province of Grosseto in the Italian region Tuscany, located about south of Florence and about south of Grosseto. The peninsula is connected with the mainland by three spits of land which form two lagoons, the ''Laguna di Ponente'' on the west side and the ''Laguna di Levante'' on the east side of the middle dam. The province of Grosseto ( it, links=no, provincia di Grosseto) is a province in the Tuscany region of Italy. Its capital is the city of Grosseto. As of 2013 the province had a total population of 225,098 people. Germán Frers, Sr. (born July 4, 1941, in Argentina) is a naval architect renowned for designing successful racing yachts. He designed his first yacht in 1958. There is a design team consisting of Germán Frers and his son Germán Frers, Jr., supported by a team of engineers, architects and designers, some of whom have been with the company for more than 25 years. Dennis Conner
Dennis Walter Conner (born September 16, 1942) is an American yachtsman. He is noted for winning a bronze medal at the 1976 Olympics, two Star World Championships, and three wins in the America's Cup. Sailing career Conner was born September 16, 1942, in San Diego. He competed in the 1976 Olympics together with Conn Findlay and took the bronze medal in the Tempest class. Conner also took part in the 1979 Admiral's Cup, as helmsman on the Peterson 45 named ''Williwaw''. America's Cup Conner has won the America's Cup three times, successfully defending the Cup in 1980, and 1988 and winning as the challenger in 1987. Doug Peterson (yacht Designer)
Douglas Blair Peterson (July 25, 1945 – June 26, 2017) was an American yacht designer. Beginning with the One Ton Cup, One Tonner ''Ganbare (yacht), Ganbare'' in 1973, Peterson's designs have pioneered many innovations in racing and cruising yachts. In the mid-1970s, Peterson's designs dominated offshore racing events, with a string of winning high-profile International Offshore Rule, IOR boats. Designed for Jack Kelly Yachts, the Peterson 44 debuted in 1976. This boat was a pioneer in performance cruising yacht design and one can still see many of the over 200 built in ports around the world. The design was followed by the Kelly Peterson 46 of which 30 were built. Hull number 30, the last one built, completed a circumnavigation of the globe in 2017. Olin Stephens
Olin James Stephens II (April 13, 1908 – September 13, 2008) was an American yacht designer. Stephens was born in New York City, but spent his summers with his brother Rod, learning to sail on the New England coast. He also attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for a term. Stephens' name had a long history in connection with America's Cup. He assisted W. Starling Burgess with the design of the J-Class ''Ranger'', which won the America's Cup in 1937, defeating the Royal Yacht Squadron's ''Endeavour II'' in four races. He was the original designer of six out of seven successful 12 Metre defenders of the America's Cup between 1958 and 1980, with the exception of ''Weatherly'' in 1962. America's Cup Hall Of Fame
The America's Cup Hall of Fame, located at the Herreshoff Marine Museum of Bristol, Rhode Island, USA, honors individuals for outstanding achievement in the America's Cup sailing competition.
