Ya'akov Ahimeir
Ya'akov Ahimeir ( he, יעקב אחימאיר; born July 21, 1938), is a senior Israeli journalist, and a television and radio personality. Early life Ya'akov Ahimeir was born in Ramat Gan in 1938, the son of the Revisionist Zionist leader Abba Ahimeir. He was named after Ya'akov Raz, a fighter in one of the Israel's pre-state Jewish undergrounds, who died after he had intentionally infected his own wounds in order not to be caught by the British secret police, and also Shlomo a'akovBen-Yosef, known as the first of the Olei Hagardom. He grew up in Jerusalem and graduated from "Dvir" gymnasium. He earned a degree in history and political science from Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Channel 1 (Israel)
Channel 1 ( he, הערוץ הראשון, ''HaArutz HaRishon'', lit. ''The First Channel,'' sometimes called 1 ערוץ, ''Arutz Ahat'') was one of the oldest television channels in Israel (with only the Israeli Educational Television being older) and one of five terrestrial channels in the country (along with Channel 2, Channel 10, Channel 33 and the Knesset Channel). Run by the Israel Broadcasting Authority, it started broadcasting on 2 May 1968, and was largely funded through a television licence, though there were some adverts. The Sokolov Award, also known as Sokolov Prize, is an Israeli journalism award, awarded by the Tel Aviv municipality, in memory of Nahum Sokolow. The award has been granted since 1956, initially to outstanding print journalists and since 1981 to journalists from the electronic media. Israel's Unilateral Disengagement Plan
The Israeli disengagement from Gaza ( he, תוכנית ההתנתקות, ') was the unilateral dismantling in 2005 of the 21 Israeli settlements in the Gaza Strip and the evacuation of Israeli settlers and army from inside the Gaza Strip. The disengagement was proposed in 2003 by Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, adopted by the government in June 2004, and approved by the Knesset in February 2005 as the ''Disengagement Plan Implementation Law''.
