YMCA Cricket Club
YMCA Cricket Club is a cricket club in Dublin, Ireland, playing in Division 1 of the Leinster Senior League. The club was established in 1890 and acquired its current grounds at Claremont Road in 1911. Senior status was achieved in 1934 and the club won the Leinster Senior League for the first time in 1955. YMCA Cricket Club Badge
YMCA, sometimes regionally called the Y, is a worldwide youth organization based in Geneva, Switzerland, with more than 64 million beneficiaries in 120 countries. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Leinster Senior Cup (cricket)
The Leinster Senior League Cup is the most important provincial cricket knock-out cup of the Leinster jurisdiction in Ireland. The competition began as the Leinster Senior Cup in 1919 and was renamed in 2019. Traditionally a knock-out competition, from 2019 it has been played in a group format, with the winners and runners-up of two groups qualifying for semi-finals. Trent Johnston
David Trent Johnston (born 29 April 1974) is an Irish-Australian cricket coach and former player. He was born in Wollongong, New South Wales, and played his early cricket for New South Wales in Australian domestic competitions. A right-handed batsman and right-arm fast-medium bowler, he later moved to Ireland, and made his debut for the Ireland cricket team in 2004. Johnston was subsequently named captain of Ireland, and was a regular fixture in the national team until his retirement in 2013. He coached the Hong Kong national cricket team from 2019 to 2022. Albert Van Der Merwe
Albert van der Merwe (born 1 June 1979) is a South African-born Irish cricketer. Van der Merwe is right-handed batsman who bowls right-arm off break and who played international cricket for Ireland. He was born in Bellville, Cape Province. He was educated at Huguenot High School, Wellington, Cape Province. Van der Merwe captained the North West University (Pukke) (formerly known as Potchefstroomse Universiteit) to their maiden SA University title in 2001. He was also part of the 2001 side that won the South African National Club Championships. Van der Merwe has played cricket for Irish club sides Derriaghy, The Hills and YMCA CC. Roderick Ian "Derry" Gill (21 July 1919 – 28 October 1983) was an Irish cricketer. A right-handed batsman and right-arm medium pace bowler, he played seven times for the Ireland cricket team between 1947 and 1951, including three first-class matches. Playing career Gill made his debut for Ireland in May 1947, playing against Scotland in a first-class match. He played a match against the Craven Gentlemen the following month, before spending two years outside the Ireland team, his next game coming in August 1949 against the MCC at Lord's He played three times for Ireland in 1950, against Scotland, Nottinghamshire and the MCC.
