Yuri Kuznetsov (Russian ''Юрий Кузнецов'', born 31 January 1965) is a Russian former ice hockey player. Career Early career in Russia Kuznetsov started his professional career in 1985, playing in Russia for Krylya Sovetov Moscow of the Soviet Hockey League and of the Vysshaya Liga until 1993. Finland After one year in Swedish Elitserien, he joined HIFK in the SM-liiga, where he played for 3 seasons. At the beginning of the 1997–1998 season he moved to SaiPa where Kuznetsov stayed for nearly five seasons. During the middle of the 2001–02 season, Kuznetsov left SaiPa and returned to his homeland and the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl after nine years spent abroad. Overall, Kuznetsov played in 388 matches in SM-liiga and scored 53 goals, 119 assists and 172 points. He collected 305 penalty minutes. Russian Superleague
The Russian Superleague (russian: Чемпионат России Суперлига, ''Russian Championship Superleague''), commonly abbreviated as RSL, was the highest division of the main professional ice hockey league in Russia. It was considered the second best league in the world, after the National Hockey League (NHL) of North America. It was a part of the Russian Pro Hockey League which was composed of three divisions — the Superleague, Major League (''Vysshaya Liga''), and First League (''Pervaya Liga''). In ice hockey, a goal is scored when the puck entirely crosses the goal line between the two goal posts and below the goal crossbar. A goal awards one point to the team attacking the goal scored upon, regardless of which team the player who actually deflected the puck into the goal belongs to (see also own goal). The Russian men's national ice hockey team (russian: Сборная России по хоккею с шайбой) is the national men's ice hockey team of Russia, overseen by the Ice Hockey Federation of Russia. As of 2021, they were rated third in the IIHF World Ranking. The team has competed internationally from 1992 until a 2022 ban, and is recognized by the IIHF as the successor to the Soviet Union team and CIS team. Yuri Vladimirovich Kuznetsov (russian: Юрий Владимирович Кузнецов; born August 10, 1971, in Novosibirsk, Russia) is a Russian ice hockey coach and former player. Career Notes Yuri Kuznetsov reached the highlight of his career in 2001 when he won the Russian Superleague with Metallurg Magnitogorsk, playing on a line with brothers Aleksandr and Yevgeniy Koreshkov from Kazakhstan. This same year he played for the Russian national team in the 2001 IIHF World Championship. After two successful seasons with Severstal Cherepovets, he was reunited with the Koreshkov brothers in 2004–2005 at his youth club, the Sibir Novosibirsk but all three players left the club during the season without much success.
