Yuri's Day (2008 Film)
''Yuri's Day'' (russian: Юрьев день, Yuriev den) is a 2008 Russian drama film directed by Kirill Serebrennikov. The film won the Grand Prix at the Warsaw International Film Festival. Plot Before leaving for a permanent residence in Germany, famous opera singer Lyuba (Kseniya Rappoport) brings her son Andryusha (Roman Shmakov) to the Russian hinterland to say goodbye to her native home. For her these places represent beautiful romanticism of Russian poetry. The son goes to see an exposition of the local kremlin and disappears. Lyuba first looks for her son, and then remains in the town and waits for her son to return. Gradually she becomes a different person. Opera singer Lyubov loses her son, voice, destiny and transforms into a coarse cleaner Lucy. And in this new person additional qualities appear. Kirill Semyonovich Serebrennikov (russian: Кирилл Семёнович Серебренников; born 7 September 1969) is a Russian stage and film director and theatre designer. Since 2012, he has been the artistic director of the Gogol Center in Moscow. He is one of Russia's leading theatre and cinema directors and winner of numerous international awards. In 2017 he was arrested for alleged embezzlement of the state funds given to the Seventh Studio, a cultural institution he headed. Serebrennikov spent almost 2 years under house arrest. A key witness confessed that she made accusations under pressure from the investigators, and the judge was changed. Yuri Arabov Yuri Nikolaevich Arabov (russian: Юрий Николаевич Арабов) (born 25 October 1954) is a Russian screenwriter, writer, poet and educator. He is known for his long-lasting collaboration with Alexander Sokurov. He is an Honored Artist of the Russian Federation (1999). Biography Yuri Arabov was born in Moscow into a mixed Russian-Greek family. His parents met in Tula, Russia, the native town of his father, but divorced in five years after Yuri's birth.
