"You in Your Small Corner" is a British television play shown in the ''Play of the Week'' series on the Independent Television (ITV) on 5 June 1962. It was formerly believed to include the first televised interracial kiss on British television until the rediscovery of an earlier interracial kiss featuring the same male actor in an ITV broadcast of '' Hot Summer Night'' on 1 February 1959. The performance, broadcast live as part of the ''ITV Play of the Week'' series, was commissioned and produced by Granada Television, one of ITV's regional contractors. It was an adaptation of a stage play of the same name by Jamaican-born Barry Reckord and was directed by Claude Whatham. ''Play of the Week'' is a 90-minute British television anthology series produced by a variety of companies including Granada Television, Associated-Rediffusion, ATV and Anglia Television. Synopsis From 1955 to 1967 approximately 500 episodes aired on ITV. The first production was ''Ten Minute Alibi'', produced by Associated-Rediffusion on 14 May 1956 while the earliest to survive is ''There Was a Young Lady'', transmitted on 23 July 1956 and was telerecorded (film recorded). The first production not to be transmitted live was Henrik Ibsen's ''The Wild Duck'' which was also film recorded. The first to be pre-recorded on videotape was ''Mary Broome'', a Granada production broadcast on 3 September 1958. Motley Theatre Design Group
Motley was the name of the theatre design firm made up of three English designers: sisters Margaret (known as "Percy," 1904–2000) and Sophie Harris (1900–1966) and Elizabeth Montgomery (1902–1993). Career The name ''Motley'', according to Montgomery, was chosen from the medieval fabric--a rough, multicolored woven called motley--not from Shakespeare's term of ' Motley' from ''As You Like It.'' The artists were constantly taunted with the Shakespearean connection anyway. Motley met at art school in the 1920s and became John Gielgud's designers during the 1930s.
