You're Not The Only One Who Feels This Way
"You're Not the Only One Who Feels This Way" is Ammonia's second single from their second album '' Eleventh Avenue''. Released ahead of the album, this song was the second big song for the band and is generally regarded as their second biggest song after "Drugs". Originally written on the last day of recording after a phone call from the record company to Dave Johnstone. They advised him that there were no 'hits' on the album and could he please write one. After a near nervous breakdown, Dave wrote "You're Not the Only One Who Feels This Way" the next morning. Once the producer had arrived later in the afternoon the song was recorded. Johnstone proceeded to fax the record company that he had indeed "written their fucking single". Despite this the song remains one of their enduring legacies. Reception The song marks the second time Ammonia charted in Triple J's Hottest 100, coming in at No. 43 in 1997. The band's only other entry was "Drugs", which came in at No. 27 in 1 ...

Ammonia (band)
Ammonia was an alternative rock band from Australia which made a name for itself in the 1990s, producing a mixture of grunge and guitar pop (a sound they described as "pop-metal"). The group began in 1992, initially comprising guitarist Dave Johnstone (ex-Hideous Goldsteins), drummer Alan Balmont (ex-Dear Octopus, Cherrytones) and bass guitar player Phil Natt. This line-up performed under the name Fuzzswirl and, following the departure of Natt, they continued to perform with a variety of bass guitar players around their hometown of Perth, Western Australia, Perth. In 1993, when the bass guitarist Simon Hensworth joined the group, the name was changed to Ammonia. The band was considering the name "Glorious Noise Earthquake", but selected Ammonia for its simplicity after Hensworth stumbled across the word in a science textbook. History Early success The band's early success was due mostly to their self-financed recordings and word of mouth. The trio released a self-titled cassett ...

Triple J Hottest 100
The Triple J Hottest 100 is an annual music listener poll hosted by the publicly-funded, national Australian youth radio station, Triple J. Members of the public are invited to vote for their favourite Australian and alternative music of the year in an online poll conducted two weeks prior to the new year. From 1989 to 2018, the 100 most popular songs were counted down from 12 pm on Australia Day. Since then, the countdown has been held on the fourth weekend of January, due to increasing controversy about Australia Day regarding its marking of the colonisation of Australia and dispossession of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander land. Typically on the day after the Hottest 100, Triple J has played the Hottest 200 ("the songs that didn't quite make it") from 10 am. The poll has grown from 500,000 votes in 2004 to over 3.2 million in 2019, and has been referred to as "the world's greatest music democracy". Since 2015, the countdown has raised at least $3.3 million for various ...

Ammonia (band) Songs
Ammonia is an inorganic compound of nitrogen and hydrogen with the formula . A stable binary hydride, and the simplest pnictogen hydride, ammonia is a colourless gas with a distinct pungent smell. Biologically, it is a common nitrogenous waste, particularly among aquatic organisms, and it contributes significantly to the nutritional needs of terrestrial organisms by serving as a precursor to 45% of the world's food and fertilizers. Around 70% of ammonia is used to make fertilisers in various forms and composition, such as urea and Diammonium phosphate. Ammonia in pure form is also applied directly into the soil. Ammonia, either directly or indirectly, is also a building block for the synthesis of many pharmaceutical products and is used in many commercial cleaning products. It is mainly collected by downward displacement of both air and water. Although common in nature—both terrestrially and in the outer planets of the Solar System—and in wide use, ammonia is both ca ...

ARIA Charts
The ARIA Charts are the main Australian music sales charts, issued weekly by the Australian Recording Industry Association. The charts are a record of the highest selling songs and albums in various genres in Australia. ARIA became the official Australian music chart in June 1988, succeeding the Kent Music Report, which had been Australia's national music sales charts since 1974. History The ''Go-Set'' charts were Australia's first national singles and albums charts, published from 5 October 1966 until 24 August 1974. Succeeding ''Go-Set'', the Kent Music Report began issuing the national top 100 charts in Australia from May 1974. The compiler, David Kent, also published Australia's national charts from 1940 to 1974 in a retrospective fashion using state-based data. In mid-1983, the Australian Recording Industry Association commenced licensing the Kent Music Report chart. The first printed national top 50 chart available in record stores, branded the ''Countdown'' chart, was ...

Drugs (Ammonia Song)
"Drugs" is a song by Ammonia, released as their debut single from their debut album '' Mint 400'' in 1995. The song was an instant hit and is still regarded as one of the band's most recognised songs. Lead singer Dave Johnstone is quoted as saying, "There isn't really that much of a message. 'Drugs' is about apathy towards drugs." The song was written in five minutes during a rehearsal and peaked at #32 on the Australian Singles chart and came in at #27 on Triple J’s Hottest 100 for 1995. Eleventh Avenue (album)
''Eleventh Avenue'' is Ammonia's second and final studio album. It was released in Australia in May 1998. It was a very different album to their previous effort, ''Mint 400'', moving away from grunge-inspired guitar rock to include harmonies, samples and psychedelic keyboards. The album was recorded and produced by Dave Fridmann ( Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev), a choice made by the band in part due to the lack of control the band had over the first album. Two songs ("You're Not the Only One..." and "Monochrome") received extensive airplay on Triple J; however, the album failed to chart as well as its predecessor, only reaching #20 on the National Album charts. ''Eleventh Avenue'' turned out to be the band's last album. It went out of print in March 2002. Track listing All lyrics written by Allan Balmont, Simon Hensworth and Dave Johnstone.APRA database ...
