''You're My Thrill'' is the debut album by Doris Day, issued on August 1, 1949 by Columbia Records as catalog number CL-6071, as a 10" LP. At the same time, Columbia issued it as an album set of 78 rpm records as C-189. Legacy information One of the tracks, "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered, Bewitched, Bothered & Bewildered", was also issued as a single (Columbia catalog number 38698, 7" LP 1-480), reaching #9 on the ''Billboard (magazine), Billboard'' chart in 1950. While the author of ''Discovering Doris'' states that "each [track] had been previously available on four 78-rpm singles," this is incorrect; all eight selections on ''You're My Thrill'' were newly released with the album itself, and the single release of "Bewitched" was spun off after the fact and not released until February 1950. Doris Day (born Doris Mary Kappelhoff; April 3, 1922 – May 13, 2019) was an American actress, singer, and activist. Lew Brown
Lew Brown (born Louis Brownstein; December 10, 1893 – February 5, 1958) was a lyricist for popular songs in the United States. During World War I and the Roaring Twenties, he wrote lyrics for several of the top Tin Pan Alley composers, especially Albert Von Tilzer. Brown was one third of a successful songwriting and music publishing team with Buddy DeSylva and Ray Henderson from 1925 until 1931. Brown also wrote or co-wrote many Broadway shows and Hollywood films. Sammy Fain
Sammy Fain (born Samuel E. Feinberg; June 17, 1902 – December 6, 1989) was an American composer of popular music. In the 1920s and early 1930s, he contributed numerous songs that form part of The Great American Songbook, and to Broadway theatre. Fain was also a popular musician and vocalist. Biography Sammy Fain was born in New York City, New York, United States, the son of a cantor. In 1923, Fain appeared in the short sound film, "Sammy Fain and Artie Dunn" directed by Lee De Forest filmed in DeForest's Phonofilm sound-on-film process. In 1925, Fain left the Fain-Dunn act to devote himself to music. Fain was a self-taught pianist who played by ear. He began working as a staff pianist and composer for music publisher Jack Mills. "That Old Feeling" is a popular song about nostalgia written by Sammy Fain, with lyrics by Lew Brown. It was published in 1937. The song first appeared in the movie ''Walter Wanger's Vogues of 1938,'' but it was actually released in 1937. Sung there by Virginia Verrill, it was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1937 but lost out to "Sweet Leilani". The song was immediately a hit in a version recorded by Shep Fields and His Rippling Rhythm Orchestra, considered to have spent fourteen weeks on the charts in 1937, four at #1. (The charts did not actually exist in those days, but reconstructions of what they would have been give those statistics.) A version was also recorded by Jan Garber, which charted at #10.) Einar Aaron Swan (born Einar (Eino) William Swan; March 20, 1903 – August 8, 1940) was an American musician, arranger and composer. He is known for writing songs including "When Your Lover Has Gone" and " In the Middle of a Dream". Early life Swan was born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts to Finnish parents who had immigrated to the United States at the turn of the century; he was the second of nine children. George Siravo
George Siravo (October 2, 1916, Staten Island, New York – February 28, 2000, Medford, Oregon) was an American composer, arranger, conductor, saxophonist, and clarinetist. He began his career playing reeds with the Cliquot Club Eskimos and later was a member of the orchestras of led by Glenn Miller, Gene Krupa, Charlie Barnet, and Jan Savitt. He played alto saxophone in the first Glenn Miller orchestra, appearing on the 1937 recording "Community Swing". In the 1940s, he became a staff arranger for Columbia Records and worked with Frank Sinatra, Doris Day, Tony Bennett, Connie Boswell, Vic Damone, and Artie Shaw. James Lamont Gillespie (February 6, 1888 – March 14, 1975) pen name Haven Gillespie, was an American Tin Pan Alley composer and lyricist. He was the writer of "You Go to My Head", "Honey", "By the Sycamore Tree", "That Lucky Old Sun", " Breezin' Along With The Breeze", " Right or Wrong," " Beautiful Love", "Drifting and Dreaming", and "Louisiana Fairy Tale" (Fats Waller's recording of which was used as the first theme song in the PBS Production of ''This Old House''), each song in collaboration with other people such as Beasley Smith, Ervin R.
