Hungry Kids Of Hungary
Hungry Kids of Hungary (often shortened to HKOH) were an Australian four-piece indie pop band from Brisbane, Queensland. The band consisted of Dean McGrath (lead vocals, guitar), Kane Mazlin (lead vocals, keys), Ben Dalton (bass guitar, vocals) and Ryan Strathie (drums, vocals). The band released two studio albums, both peaking inside the Australian top 30. History 2007-2009: Origins and EPs The Hungry Kids of Hungary were formed in mid-2007. Their debut single, "Set it Right" was released in May 2008 and the band launched their self-titled debut EP at the Brisbane venue ''The Zoo'' in mid-2008. The EP quickly garnered attention from the Australian music industry, most notably that of Triple J's Richard Kingsmill who played songs from the Ep on high rotation. In December 2008, the band were announced as the Queensland winners of Triple J Unearthed Competition that entitled them to play at the Big Day Out on the Gold Coast. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Independent labels such as Flying Nun Records, Flying Nun began to promote the scene across New Zealand, inspiring key college rock bands in the United States such as Pavement (band), Pavement, Pixies (band), Pixies and R.E.M. Wayne Connolly
Wayne Paul Connolly is an Australian musician, record producer and audio engineer. From 1991 to 1997 Connolly provided lead guitar and vocals in guitar pop group the Welcome Mat, with whom he released two studio albums. In 1994, he formed Knievel with Tracy Ellis and Nick Kennedy, which issued four studio albums. Knievel achieved high rotation on national youth radio Triple J, they toured locally and internationally, and supported performances by Luna, Teenage Fanclub, Death Cab for Cutie and The Pernice Brothers. Career Musician Wayne Connolly (ex-Deluge), on lead guitar and backing vocals, joined urban and western band John Kennedy's Love Gone Wrong in Sydney in mid-1986. Alongside Connolly, the group's line-up was Kennedy on lead vocals and guitar, Cory Messenger on guitar and backing vocals, Barry Turnbull on bass guitar and Vincent Sheehan on drums. ''Escapades'' is the debut studio album by Australian indie pop band Hungry Kids of Hungary. Released in Australia on 1 October 2010 on Stop Start. The album was produced by Matt Redlich and peaked on the Australian ARIA chart at number 24. The album also reached #20 in triple j's listeners top 20 album poll at the end of 2010. The album includes two singles from the band's first two EPs, "Scattered Diamonds" and a re-recorded version of "Set It Right". Recording and production ''Escapades'' contains material that had been written by the band's Dean McGrath and Kane Mazlin from 2008 through to the album's release in 2010. A total of 47 demos were recorded for the record with the track list resulting in 12 tracks. A further two songs - "Airsick" and "Keep Talking" - were recorded for the album but didn't make the physical release. Jarrad Kritzstein, (born September 9, 1987) also known as Jarrad K, is an American record producer, songwriter, filmmaker and actor. He is known for co-writing/producing Ruston Kelly’s debut LP “Dying Star” and Elohim’s self-titled album, “Elohim.” Early life and education Kritzstein was born in Orange County, California. Career As a young man, Kritzstein starred as Jimmy Kidd on the PBS television show ''Wishbone'', as well as voiced Tiny Tim in the animated ''A Christmas Carol''. Kritzstein has directed and produced various music videos for Baywood and Zak Waters, and has worked as a professional film/video editor from a very young age. In 2011, Kritzstein collaborated with Australian artist Megan Washington to write/produce her last single, "Holy Moses," and "Insomnia," (the title track) from the album Insomnia/I Believe You Liar.
