Yorkton
Yorkton is a city located in south-eastern Saskatchewan, Canada. It is about 450 kilometres north-west of Winnipeg and 300 kilometres south-east of Saskatoon and is the sixth largest city in the province. As of 2017 the census population of the city was 19,643. Yorkton has had a growth rate of 4.3% since 2011. Yorkton was founded in 1882 and incorporated as a city in 1928. The city is bordered by the rural municipalities of Orkney to the north, west, and south, and Wallace on the east. History In 1882 a group of businessmen and investors formed the York Farmers Colonization Company. Authorized to issue up to $300,000 in debentures and lenient government credit terms on land purchases encouraged company representatives to visit the District of Assiniboia of the North-West Territories with the intent to view some crown land available near the Manitoba border. Yorkton (federal Electoral District)
Yorkton was a federal electoral district in Saskatchewan, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1925 to 1968. This riding was created in 1924 from parts of Mackenzie and Saltcoats ridings. It was abolished in 1966 when it was redistributed into Regina East, Regina—Lake Centre and Yorkton—Melville ridings. Yorkton is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, Canada. It has historically almost always voted for the governing party, selecting an opposition candidate only twice in its history ( 1938 & 1960). The current boundaries of the constituency were set by the ''Representation Act, 2012'' (Saskatchewan). Founded as "York City" in 1882, Yorkton (pop. 15,038) became a city on February 1, 1928. Yorkton Municipal Airport
Yorkton Municipal Airport is located north of Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Canada. History During World War II the airport was operated as RCAF Station Yorkton and was home to No. 23 Elementary Flying Training School and No. 11 Service Flying Training School, both of which were part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. CFS Yorkton
Royal Canadian Air Force Station Yorkton (ADC ID: C-51) was a Long Range Radar (LRR) and Ground Air Transmitter Receiver (GATR) facility of the Pinetree Line. The site was SAGE compatible from day one. It was located near Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Canada. Construction was started in 1961 and the station was operational in 1963. Radar functions were operated by 46 Radar Squadron under the control of NORAD. The site was renamed Canadian Forces Station or CFS Yorkton in 1967 upon the unification of the three branches of the Canadian military into the Canadian Armed Forces. CFS Yorkton was closed in 1986 as part of the deactivation of the Pinetree Line. The White Spruce Youth Treatment Centre took over the site as a youth addiction facility until 1998 and now is the site of Orcadia Youth Residence as a youth custody facility. Yorkton Creek
Yorkton Creek, formally known as Little Whitesand River, is a river in the south-east region of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. The river begins at Leech Lake, south of Yorkton, and flows north into the Whitesand River. The Whitesand River flows east into the Assiniboine River, which is a major tributary of the Red River. While Yorkton Creek begins at Leech Lake, its main tributary, Crescent Creek, has its headwaters in the Beaver Hills to the west. History Plains Cree and Saulteaux First Nations inhabited both the Whitesand River and Yorkton Creek watersheds before the arrival of Europeans as archaeological evidence shows signs of encampment sites and hunting activity. With the signing of Treaty 4 at Fort Qu'Appelle in 1874, the land was opened up for settlement from Eastern Canada.
