York Central (UK Parliament Constituency)
York Central is a parliamentary constituency which is represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament by Rachael Maskell of the Labour Party and the Co-operative Party, making it one of only two constituencies (including Middlesbrough) in North Yorkshire not currently represented by the Conservatives. John De Graham (York MP)
Sir John de Graham (died 22 July 1298) of Dundaff was a 13th-century Scottish noble. He was killed during the Battle of Falkirk. He was the son of David de Graham and Agnes Noble and was born in the lands of Dundaff, Stirlingshire, Scotland. During the Wars of Scottish Independence he fought alongside Sir William Wallace. Sir John de Graham fought at Stirling Bridge and Falkirk. He was one of several notable Scottish casualties at the Battle of Falkirk, along with Sir John Stewart, Lord of Bonkyll on 22 July 1298, when the Scottish forces were routed by Edward I of England's stronger force of cavalry.Debrett, p. 678. Andrew De Bolingbroke
Andrew de Bolingbroke was one of two Members of Parliament for the constituency of York along with John de Askham from 1299 to 1304. Life and politics Andrew was a Bailiff of the city of York from 1303–04. At that time he is recorded as being a chamberlain in the Freeman's Register. A position he held between 1291 and 1307. As a bailiff his duty was to uphold the City Ordinances, but was accused, in 1301, of failing to do so along with several other prominent people including former MP, John de Askham. The charges had been brought following his establishment of a guild whose members had established control of governance of the city, including taxation controls beneficial to its members. As a result of this type of behaviour, Andrew and many other merchants in the guild were unpopular with the citizens to the extent that during his 1309 term as Mayor, he was attacked by a man with a knife.
