Yolexis Ulacia
Yolexis Ulacia Carrazana (born 1978) is a Cuban baseball relief pitcher. Career After nine seasons in the Cuban leagues (through the 2007-2008 campaign), he had gone 50-38 with 68 saves and a 3.24 earned run average (ERA) in 334 games for Villa Clara. Ulacia was the winning pitcher in the Cuban Serie Nacional All-Star Game in both 2003 and 2004. In the winter of 2003-04, he led all pitchers with 45 games pitched. He led again in that department with 42 appearances in 2004-05 and 39 in 2006-2007. After 26 games in 2008-2009, he had 17 saves and made the Cuban roster for the 2009 World Baseball Classic. In the Classic, Ulacia saved one game and allowed one run in one inning. is a Japanese professional baseball shortstop and second baseman for the Tochigi Golden Braves of Baseball Challenge League in Japan. Vladimir García Escalante (born July 4, 1982) is a Cuban baseball pitcher for Ciego de Ávila of the Cuban National Series. He has also played for the Cuba national baseball team. His fastball has peaked at . Career García debuted for Ciego de Ávila in 2005-2006, going 3–5 with 5 saves and a 6.04 earned run average (ERA) at age 17. Shuichi Murata
is a third baseman for the Tochigi Golden Braves of Baseball Challenge League. Murata led the Central League in home runs in both and and is one of the few pure home run hitters in Japanese professional baseball today. He played in the 2008 Beijing Olympics as well as the 2009 World Baseball Classic as a member of the Japanese national team and hit cleanup for much of the latter tournament. 2009 World Baseball Classic
The 2009 World Baseball Classic (WBC) was an international baseball competition. It began on 5 9 and finished 5 26. Unlike in 2006, when the round-robin format of the first two rounds led to some eliminations being decided by run-difference tiebreakers, the first two rounds of the 2009 edition were modified double-elimination format. The modification was that the final game of each bracket was winner-take-all, even if won by the team emerging from the loser's bracket, although that game only affected seeding, as two teams always advanced from each bracket. 2009 World Baseball Classic Rosters
The following is a list of squads for each nation competing at the 2009 World Baseball Classic. The tournament started on March 5, 2009. Each participating national federation had a deadline of January 19, 2009 to submit a 45-man provisional roster. Final rosters of 28 players, which also must include a minimum of 13 pitchers and two catchers, were submitted on February 24. If a player on the submitted roster is unable to play, usually due to injury, he can be substituted at any time before the start of the tournament. Roster changes during the competition are restricted to the breaks between rounds of competition—for example, a player who is injured during pool play could not be replaced during the pool phase, but could be replaced if his team advanced to the second round.
