Yir'on ( he, יִרְאוֹן) is a kibbutz in the Galilee Panhandle in northern Israel. Located adjacent to the Lebanese border, it falls under the jurisdiction of Upper Galilee Regional Council. In it had a population of . History The village was established on 20 May 1949 by former members of the Palmach's Yiftach Brigade and graduates of the '' Dror–HeHalutz'' youth movement on the site of the depopulated Palestinian village of Saliha. Ada Feinberg-Sireni, later a member of the Knesset, was amongst the founders. It was one of a series of villages established along the Lebanese border, with the intention of reinforcing the young state's borders. It was named after Iron, a biblical village of the Tribe of Naphtali (), which is commonly identified with Yaroun, a Lebanese village 3 kilometers to the west. Saliha
Saliha ( ar, صَلْحَة), sometimes transliterated Salha, meaning 'the good/healthy place', was a Palestinian Arab village located 12 kilometres northwest of Safed. The Franco-British boundary agreement of 1920 placed Saliha within the French Mandate of Lebanon border, thus classifying it a part of Lebanese territory. It was one of the 24 villages transferred from the French mandate of Lebanon to British control in 1924 in accordance with the 1923 demarcation of the border between the Mandatory Palestine and the French Mandate for Syria and the Lebanon. It thus formed part of Palestine until 1948. Palmach
The Palmach (Hebrew: , acronym for , ''Plugot Maḥatz'', "Strike Companies") was the elite fighting force of the Haganah, the underground army of the Yishuv (Jewish community) during the period of the British Mandate for Palestine. The Palmach was established on 15 May 1941. By the outbreak of the 1948 Arab–Israeli War it consisted of over 2,000 men and women in three fighting brigades and auxiliary aerial, naval and intelligence units. With the creation of Israel's army, the three Palmach Brigades were disbanded. This and political reasons compelled many of the senior Palmach officers to resign in 1950. Ada Feinberg-Sireni
Ada Feinberg-Sireni ( he, עדה פיינברג-סירני; born 22 April 1930) is a former Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for the Alignment between 1969 and 1974. Born in Rome in Italy, Feinberg-Sireni made aliyah to Mandatory Palestine in 1934. She was educated in Tel Aviv, and was a member of the Scouts training group established by the Palmach. In 1949 she was amongst the founding members of kibbutz Yir'on. She was a member of the HaKibbutz HaMeuhad movement, and later co-ordinated the youth section of the United Kibbutz Movement. A kibbutz ( he, קִבּוּץ / , lit. "gathering, clustering"; plural: kibbutzim / ) is an intentional community in Israel that was traditionally based on agriculture. The first kibbutz, established in 1909, was Degania. Today, farming has been partly supplanted by other economic branches, including industrial plants and high-tech enterprises. Kibbutzim began as utopian communities, a combination of socialism and Zionism. In recent decades, some kibbutzim have been privatized and changes have been made in the communal lifestyle.
