Yesterday's Son
''Yesterday's Son'' is a science fiction novel by American writer A. C. Crispin set in the fictional Star Trek Universe. It describes the events surrounding Spock's discovery that he has a son. ''Yesterday's Son'' and its sequel, '' Time for Yesterday'', make up A. C. Crispin's "Yesterday Saga". The book was the first Star Trek novel other than the movie novelizations to make the New York Times Bestseller List. Plot While studying the archaeological records of the now-destroyed planet Sarpeidon, a scholar aboard the USS ''Enterprise'' finds pictures of an ice-age cave painting that depicts a Vulcan face. Boris Vallejo (born January 8, 1941) is a Peruvian-American painter who works in the science fiction, fantasy, and erotica genres. His hyper-representational paintings have appeared on the covers of numerous novels in the science fiction, sword and sorcery, and fantasy fiction genres, along with album covers for musical groups in addition to movie posters and other media. His art is also sold through a series of annual calendars. In the fictional ''Star Trek'' universe, the Vulcan nerve pinch is a fictional technique used mainly by Vulcan (Star Trek), Vulcans to render unconsciousness by pinching a pressure point at the base of the victim's neck. Origin The script for "The Enemy Within (Star Trek: The Original Series), The Enemy Within" (1966) stated that Spock "knockout, kayoes" (Knocks Out) James T. Kirk, Captain Kirk (William Shatner)'s duplicate, but Leonard Nimoy, who opposed the Vietnam War and supported Eugene McCarthy, felt that such a brutal action would be unnecessarily violent for a Vulcan.
