Yessan Language
Yessan-Mayo (also known as Yesan, Mayo, and natively known as Yamano) is a Papuan language spoken by 2000 people in Papua New Guinea. It is spoken in Maio () and Yessan () villages of Yessan ward, Ambunti Rural LLG, East Sepik Province. Phonology The phonology of Yessan-Mayo is described in Foley (2018) as such: Vowels Consonants Pronouns Foreman (1974) describes two kinds of pronouns in Yessan-Mayo: non-emphatic and emphatic pronouns. In addition to the non-emphatic pronouns, there is also the reflexive pronoun ''kwarara'' (self), as well as the demonstrative pronouns ''op'' (this) and ''otop'' (that). East Sepik is a province in Papua New Guinea. Its capital is Wewak. East Sepik has an estimated population of 433,481 people (2010 census) and is 43,426 km square in size. History Cherubim Dambui was appointed as East Sepik's first premier by Prime Minister Michael Somare upon the creation of the provincial government in 1976. Dambui remained interim premier until 1979, when he became East Sepik's permanent premier with a full term. He remained in office until 1983. Velar Consonant
Velars are consonants articulated with the back part of the tongue (the dorsum) against the soft palate, the back part of the roof of the mouth (known also as the velum). Since the velar region of the roof of the mouth is relatively extensive and the movements of the dorsum are not very precise, velars easily undergo assimilation, shifting their articulation back or to the front depending on the quality of adjacent vowels. Demonstratives (abbreviated ) are words, such as ''this'' and ''that'', used to indicate which entities are being referred to and to distinguish those entities from others. A reflexive pronoun is a pronoun that refers to another noun or pronoun (its antecedent) within the same sentence. Emphatic Pronoun
An intensive pronoun (or self-intensifier) adds emphasis to a statement; for example, "I did it ''myself''." Approximant Consonant
Approximants are speech sounds that involve the articulators approaching each other but not narrowly enough nor with enough articulatory precision to create turbulent airflow. Therefore, approximants fall between fricatives, which do produce a turbulent airstream, and vowels, which produce no turbulence. Trill Consonant
In phonetics, a trill is a consonantal sound produced by vibrations between the active articulator and passive articulator. Standard Spanish as in , for example, is an alveolar trill. A trill is made by the articulator being held in place and the airstream causing it to vibrate. Usually a trill vibrates for 2–3 contacts, but may be up to 5, or even more if geminate. A lateral is a consonant in which the airstream proceeds along one or both of the sides of the tongue, but it is blocked by the tongue from going through the middle of the mouth. In phonetics, a nasal, also called a nasal occlusive or nasal stop in contrast with an oral stop or nasalized consonant, is an occlusive consonant produced with a lowered velum, allowing air to escape freely through the nose. A fricative is a consonant produced by forcing air through a narrow channel made by placing two articulators close together. These may be the lower lip against the upper teeth, in the case of ; the back of the tongue against the soft palate in the case of German (the final consonant of ''Bach''); or the side of the tongue against the molars, in the case of Welsh (appearing twice in the name ''Llanelli'').
