Yearning (1964 Film)
is a 1964 black-and-white Japanese film drama directed by Mikio Naruse, starring Hideko Takamine and Yūzō Kayama. The film is based on a story by Naruse, with the screenplay authored by Zenzo Matsuyama. The story centers on war-widow Reiko Morita (Hideko Takamine), who has given her best years to her late husband's family while managing their grocery. The family plots to tear down the shop and build a supermarket in its place, pushing Reiko out of the top position. As with many Naruse films, the background to the film marks a significant point of social change, in this case the arrival of modern supermarkets with their inevitable effect of driving local family grocery stores out of business. Plot Reiko Morita (Hideko Takamine) is a widow who loses her husband in the war. Bombing destroys his family's shop, and his widow stays to rebuild it as the rest of the family flee. Yearning is a 1990 Armenian drama film based on Hrachya Kochar's novel Nostalgia. Directed by Frunze Dovlatyan. Plot (From IMDb) The story takes place in 1930s Soviet Armenia. Arakel Aloyan is a naive peasant who left his homeland in Western Armenia after the Armenian genocide of 1915, having witnessed his village burnt and women raped. All the efforts of family members to persuade Arakel to accustom himself to a new life in Soviet Armenia are in vain whilst he suffers from nostalgia. After having a vision one sleepless night, Arakel crosses the Soviet-Turkish border, visits his village ("to visit the tombs of my parents, to kiss the remaining walls of our village church"), and is interrogated by Kurdish cavalrymen who report that his village no longer exists. After returning, he's captured by the NKVD (Soviet state security) and accused of "spying against the state." Yearning (band)
Yearning was an atmospheric doom metal band from Finland. During its career the band released five studio albums and one demo, the latter being released while the band was still called Flegeton. History Yearning was formed in 1994 under the name "Flegeton". The original line-up consisted of Juhani Palomäki on guitars and vocals and Toni Kristian on drums. The band started to write original music, and was joined by Tero Kalliomäki as a guitarist. Flegeton made a 4-track tape titled "Through the Desolate Lands", but it was never widely distributed. In July 1995, Flegeton, with a new bass player, Petri Salo (a.k.a. Mr. Woodland), went into MDM studios to record their demo ''The Temple of Sagal''. The demo received the attention of the French record company Holy Records, which Flegeton contracted with for two full-length studio albums.
