Yate
Yate is a town and civil parish in South Gloucestershire, England. It lies just to the southwest of the Cotswolds, Cotswold Hills and is northeast of Bristol city centre and from the centre of Bath, Somerset, Bath, with regular rail services to Bristol and Gloucester. Developing from a small village into a town from the 1950s onwards, the 2011 UK census, census listed Yate's parish population as 21,789. The market town of Chipping Sodbury (population 5,045) is contiguous with Yate to the east. In addition, a large southern section of the built-up area spills over into the parish of Dodington, Gloucestershire, Dodington (population 8,206), and as a result, the total population of Yate's urban area is estimated at 35,000. Yate And Pickup Bank
Yate and Pickup Bank is a civil parish in the borough of Blackburn with Darwen, Lancashire, England. The population of the civil parish taken at the census of 2011 was 366. The parish contains two hamlets, Bank Fold and Pickup Bank and part of the village of Belthorn which is on the boundary with Hyndburn. It has boundaries with the parishes of Eccleshill to the west and North Turton to the south. To the east is the area of Oswaldtwistle of the borough of Hyndburn and the area of Haslingden Grane of the borough of Rossendale (both of these districts are now unparished). The parish adjoins unparished parts of Blackburn with Darwen in two places: one is near Hoddlesden in the south west; the other, in the north is now along the M65 Motorway after the parish was extended in April 1997. Yate (volcano)
Yate Volcano is a large, glaciated stratovolcano located in the southern Andes, in the Los Lagos Region of Chile, south of the Reloncaví Estuary. Yate lies on the major regional Liquiñe-Ofqui Fault Zone, and is located 10 km north-east of the smaller Hornopiren volcano. The last known eruption occurred in 1090 CE. There are no historical records of recent volcanic activity, but there is strategic evidence of smaller eruptions sometime in the Holocene. Yaté Dam
The Yaté Dam is an arch dam on the Yaté River in Yaté commune of New Caledonia, France. The primary purpose of the dam is hydroelectric power generation and it supports a 68 MW power station. Plans for the project began in the early 1950s and the dam was designed by Coyne et Bellier. The owner and operator of the project, New Caledonian Society Energy (ENERCAL), was established on 27 August 1955 to implement the project. Construction began that year and the power station was commissioned in 1958. The dam and entire scheme was inaugurated by Jacques Soustelle, then Minister of State in charge of Overseas Departments, on 21 September 1959. It is the tallest dam and creates the largest reservoir in New Caledonia. Colonel Sir Charles Edward Yate, 1st Baronet, (28 August 1849 – 29 February 1940) was an English soldier and administrator in British India and later a politician in Britain. Early life Yate was born at Holme-on-Spalding-Moor, Yorkshire, the son of the village's vicar. He was educated at Shrewsbury School and Rossall School and in 1867 purchased an Ensigncy in the 49th Foot. Military career In 1871 he was promoted Lieutenant and transferred to the Bombay Staff Corps of the Indian Army and later to the Indian Political Service, serving as an assistant political superintendent in Rajputana. He was promoted Captain in 1879 and commanded a detachment of the 29th Bombay Infantry during the Second Afghan War, 1879–1880. He then served on General Roberts's staff and served as political officer in charge of Kandahar from August 1880 until May 1881. From 1884 to 1886 he served with the Afghan Boundary Commission.
