Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization
Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization or Y-ME (previously Breast Cancer Network of Strength), was a Chicago-based national nonprofit organization that provided resources, information, and support to those suffering from breast cancer. Their mission was to "ensure, through information, empowerment and peer support, that no one faces breast cancer alone." Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization did not fund research but did advocate for research. The organization closed in 2012, but until May of 2020, their website continued to publish various articles relating to breast cancer. Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization's headquarters was in Chicago, but it had support groups throughout the United States, which provided peer support, educational programs, and coordinated advocacy efforts. Breast cancer is cancer that develops from breast tissue. Signs of breast cancer may include a lump in the breast, a change in breast shape, dimpling of the skin, milk rejection, fluid coming from the nipple, a newly inverted nipple, or a red or scaly patch of skin. In those with distant spread of the disease, there may be bone pain, swollen lymph nodes, shortness of breath, or yellow skin.
