Xtreme Soccer League
The Xtreme Soccer League (XSL) was an indoor soccer league that began play in December 2008. Four teams from the former Major Indoor Soccer League participated in the first XSL season: the Chicago Storm, Detroit Ignition, Milwaukee Wave, and New Jersey Ironmen. Other former MISL teams joined the National Indoor Soccer League or Professional Arena Soccer League. The XSL officially launched on 16 September 2008, with a press conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Brian Loftin was the XSL's commissioner. Each team played a 20-game schedule beginning in December and ending in late March. There were no playoffs. On 3 December 2008, the XSL announced that Brine would supply the Triumph X 600 as the official match ball. Citing economic trouble, the XSL folded in July 2009. Although the league officially called it a one-year hiatus, the league never resumed play. Detroit Ignition
The Detroit Ignition were an American indoor soccer team that has played three seasons, most recently 2008–09. In April 2006, Greg Bibb, president of Hantz Group Sports and Entertainment, introduced the teams as a new Major Indoor Soccer League expansion team. They played at the Compuware Sports Arena in Plymouth Township, Michigan. Their first season was 2006–07 MISL season. After the 2007–08 MISL season, the league folded. Soon afterwards, the Ignition joined the Xtreme Soccer League. The Ignition ended the 2008–09 campaign in first place which netted them the XSL title. The XSL went on "hiatus" after one season. Plymouth, Michigan
Plymouth is a city in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 9,370 at the 2020 census. The city of Plymouth is surrounded by Plymouth Township, but the two are administered autonomously. Plymouth is a western suburb of Metro Detroit and is located about west of the city of Detroit. The terms street football and street soccer (American and Canadian English) encompass a number of informal varieties of association football. Beach soccer, also known as beach football, sand football or beasal, is a variant of association football played on a beach or some form of sand. Whilst football has been played informally on beaches, the introduction of ''beach soccer'' was an attempt to codify rules for the game. This was done in 1992 by the founders of Beach Soccer Worldwide, a company set up to develop the sport and responsible for the majority of its tournaments.
