Xishan Society
The Xishan Society () was an association consisting of prominent politicians from Shanxi province in China. The group was formed sometime around 2007, and was described as a "loose alliance" between officials and businesspeople, and allegedly operated somewhat like a secret society. The society is discussed at length in ''Datieji'' (打铁记 "Fighting Iron"), a book by journalist Luo Changping (罗昌平) about the investigation into former economic official Liu Tienan. The group was said to have consisted of full and alternate members of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party who had roots or were otherwise associated with Shanxi province, and select wealthy businesspeople. Shanxi
Shanxi (; ; formerly romanised as Shansi) is a landlocked province of the People's Republic of China and is part of the North China region. The capital and largest city of the province is Taiyuan, while its next most populated prefecture-level cities are Changzhi and Datong. Its one-character abbreviation is "" (), after the state of Jin that existed there during the Spring and Autumn period. The name ''Shanxi'' means "West of the Mountains", a reference to the province's location west of the Taihang Mountains. Du Shanxue
Du Shanxue (; born February 1956) is a former Chinese politician from Shanxi province. He successively served as the Mayor and Chinese Communist Party Secretary of Changzhi, Party Secretary of Lüliang, and Secretary General of the Shanxi Provincial Party Committee, and the province's Vice-Governor. Du was removed from office and investigated for corruption in June 2014 along with several of his colleagues, in a precursor to what amounted to a collapse of the political establishment in Shanxi in the face of the party's anti-corruption campaign under Xi Jinping. Jin Daoming
Jin Daoming (; born December 1953) is a former Chinese politician who spent his career in Beijing and Shanxi province. Of Manchu descent, Jin worked for China's top anti-corruption body between 1993 and 2006. He was then transferred to work in Taiyuan as the head of the provincial anti-corruption agency and later, Deputy Party Secretary of Shanxi province. The Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, also known as the Propaganda Department or Central Propaganda Department, is an internal division of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in charge of spreading Ideology of the Chinese Communist Party, CCP ideology, as well as creation and dissemination of Propaganda in China, propaganda. Lucheng, Shanxi
Lucheng () is a District in Changzhi, in south-eastern Shanxi province of the People's Republic of China. As a division of Changzhi City, it covers an area of 615 km² and has a population of 210,000. Lucheng's economy is driven by coal industry and limestone mining. A village in Lucheng county, Zhangzhuangcun (张庄村, pinyin: Zhāngzhuāngcūn), sometimes translated as Long Bow Village, was made famous by the book ''Fanshen'' written by William H. Hinton. The book chronicles the changes Zhangzhuangcun underwent after the defeat of occupying Japanese forces by the communist Eighth Route Army and the ensuing land reform movement by the Chinese Communist Party during second Chinese civil war. Shen Weichen
Shen Weichen (; born May 12, 1956) is a former Chinese politician from Shanxi province. During his career he served as the Communist Party Secretary of the city of Jinzhong in Shanxi province, the director of propaganda of Shanxi province, and the Party Secretary of Taiyuan, the provincial capital. In September 2010 Shen was transferred to work for the Central Propaganda Department of the Communist Party under Liu Yunshan. After the 18th Party Congress, Shen became a leading figure in the China Association for Science and Technology. He was removed from office in April 2014 by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI); Shen himself was a member of the CCDI. Ling Zhengce
Ling Zhengce (; born May 1952) is a former Chinese politician from Shanxi province. From 2008 to 2014 Ling served as the vice-chairman of the Shanxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and prior to that the director of Shanxi Development and Reform Commission. Alongside Ling Jihua, he was removed from office in 2014 and charged with corruption, bribery, and graft. Ling Zhengce was then sentenced to twelve and a half years in prison. Pinglu County
Pinglu County () is a county in southern Shanxi province of China. It is under the administration of the prefecture-level city of Yuncheng and has a population of approximately 200,000. Pinglu is historically an agricultural county, producing apples, peaches, apricots, dates, and tomatoes. Ling Jihua
Ling Jihua (; born 22 October 1956) is a former Chinese politician and one of the principal political advisers of former leader Hu Jintao. Ling was best known for his tenure as chief of the General Office of the Chinese Communist Party between 2007 and 2012. Ling was charged with corruption, bribery, and other misconduct and was sentenced to life imprisonment as part of a larger campaign carried out by Xi Jinping.
