Xavier Hufkens
Xavier Hufkens gallery is a contemporary art gallery founded by Belgian art dealer Xavier Hufkens (b. 1965). The gallery has three locations in Brussels and represents an international roster of some forty emerging, mid-career and established artists, as well as a number of estates. Development 1980s The origins of the gallery date back to 1987, when Xavier Hufkens opened his first gallery on the Parvis de Saint-Gilles in Brussels. Hufkens has stated that his desire to run an art gallery can be traced to his teenage years. During the late 1980s, Franz Erhard Walther showed with Hufkens, as did British sculptor Antony Gormley, whom the gallery continues to represent. 1990s The gallery relocated to a town house in the Brussels district of Ixelles in 1992. Contemporary art is the art of today, produced in the second half of the 20th century or in the 21st century. David Altmejd
David Altmejd (born 1974) is a Canadian sculptor who lives and works in Los Angeles. He creates highly detailed sculptures that often blur the distinction between interior and exterior, surface and structure, figurative representation and abstraction. Early life and education Born in Montreal, Quebec, Altmejd earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Université du Québec à Montréal. Alice Neel (January 28, 1900 – October 13, 1984) was an American visual artist, who was known for her portraits depicting friends, family, lovers, poets, artists, and strangers. Her paintings have an expressionistic use of line and color, psychological acumen, and emotional intensity. Her work depicts women through a female gaze, illustrating them as being consciously aware of the objectification by men and the demoralizing effects of the male gaze. Her work contradicts and challenges the traditional and objectified nude depictions of women by her male predecessors. She pursued a career as a figurative painter during a period when abstraction was favored, and she did not begin to gain critical praise for her work until the 1960s. Nicolas Party (born July 1, 1980, in Lausanne, Switzerland) is a Swiss visual artist. He lives in New York City and Brussels. He is known for his multi-media interdisciplinary immersive exhibitions. Walter Swennen (born 1946 in Brussels, Belgium) is a Belgian artist who lives and works in Brussels. Work Originally trained as a printmaker, Swennen’s early career revolved around poetry, philosophy and artistic happenings. Paul McCarthy (born August 4, 1945) is a contemporary artist who lives and works in Los Angeles, California. Life McCarthy was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1945. He studied art at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, and later continued to study at the University of Utah until 1969.
