Xanthi Railway Station
Xanthi railway station () is a railway station that servers the city of Xanthi, in Xanthi in East Macedonia and Thrace, Greece. The station is located southwest of the city centre, but still within the city limits. The station (as of 2019) is staffed, but only at peak times, but has waiting rooms and a taxi rank. History The station opened in 1900. Xanthi was annexed by Greece on 18 October 1912 during the First Balkan War. On 17 October 1925, The Greek government purchased the Greek sections of the former Salonica Monastir railway, and the railway became part of the Hellenic State Railways, with the remaining section north of Florina ceded to Yugoslavia. In 1970 OSE became the legal successor to the SEK, taking over responsibilities for most of Greece's rail infrastructure. Xanthi (regional Unit)
Xanthi (, el, Περιφερειακή ενότητα Ξάνθης, Turkish: İskeçe) is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the Region of East Macedonia and Thrace. The capital is Xanthi. Together with the regional units Rhodope and Evros, it forms the geographical region of Western Thrace. Geography Xanthi borders the Bulgarian provinces of Smolyan and Kardzhali to the north, and the Aegean Sea to the south. The regional unit of Kavala lies to the west, Drama to the northwest and Rhodope to the east. The Rhodope Mountains cover the northern part of the regional unit. Thessaloniki New Railway Station
The New Thessaloniki Railway Station ( el, Νέος Σιδηροδρομικός Σταθμός Θεσσαλονίκης, ''Neos Sidirodromikos Stathmos Thessalonikis'') is the main central passenger railway station and terminal of Thessaloniki, Greece’s second city. Friendship Express
The Friendship Express ( tr, Dostluk Ekspresi, el, Εξπρές Φιλίας, ''Exprés Filías''), was an international InterCity train jointly operated by the Turkish State Railways (TCDD) and TrainOSE from July 2005 to February 2011, linking Istanbul's Sirkeci Terminal, Turkey and Thessaloniki, Greece. Eastbound trains (service 444/81021) departed daily at 19:48 from Thessaloniki arriving to Istanbul at 08:07. Westbound trains (service 81022/445) departed at 20:30 from Istanbul, arriving to Thessaloniki at 09:33. There were two trains on this service, one provided by TrainOSE and the other by TCDD. TrainOSE used OSE former SNCF type T2 sleeping cars while TCDD used TVS2000 type cars. The trains changed locomotives and crew at Pythio. This train service was terminated on 13 February 2011. Hellenic Train S.A., formerly TrainOSE S.A. ( el, ΤραινΟΣΕ Α.Ε., pronounced ''trenosé'') is a private railway company in Greece which currently operates passenger and freight trains on OSE lines. TrainOSE was acquired in September 2017 by the Italian national railway company, Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane. The company was a subsidiary of the Hellenic Railways Organisation (OSE) until 2008, when it became an independent state-owned company until its privatisation in 2017.
