X Sporting Club
The X Sporting Club, officially founded as Football Club X, was a football team based in Barcelona, Spain, which existed during the years 1902 and 1908. They won the Catalan championship three times in a row between 1905 and 1908. X Sporting Club is best remembered for its role in the founding of RCD Espanyol in 1909. History Established in March 1902 under the name of Football Club X, and in 1903 it occupied the football field of the newly defunct Irish FC at the Nou Velòdrom de Barcelona in Carrer Aragó. Catalan Football Championship
The Catalan football championship ''(Campionat de Catalunya)'' was a football competition in Catalonia and the first football league in Spain before La Liga was established in 1929. In December 1900, Alfons Macaya, the president of Hispania AC, offered a trophy (the Copa Macaya) to be contested by several football teams from Spain. The league was played between 1901 and 1940 and was cancelled in Francoist Spain after the Spanish Civil War. Alfonso XIII (17 May 1886 – 28 February 1941), also known as El Africano or the African, was King of Spain from 17 May 1886 to 14 April 1931, when the Second Spanish Republic was proclaimed. He was a monarch from birth as his father, Alfonso XII, had died the previous year. The Campeonato de España–Copa de Su Majestad el Rey, commonly known as Copa del Rey or simply La Copa and formerly known as Copa del Presidente de la República (1932–36) and Copa del GeneralÃsimo (1939–76), is an annual knockout football competition in Spanish football, organized by the Royal Spanish Football Federation. The Catalan Football Federation ( ca, Federació Catalana de Futbol, es, Federación Catalana de Fútbol; FCF) is the football association responsible for administering football in Catalonia. It was formed on 11 November 1900 as the Football Associació de Catalunya ( en, Football Association of Catalonia). It was the first football association founded in Spain. The first president was Eduard Alesson and the original members included FC Barcelona, Català SC, Hispania AC and Sociedad Española de Football. Between 1903 and 1940, the federation organised the Campionat de Catalunya, the first league championship ever played in Spain. Santiago Massana Urgellés (5 June 1889 – Unknown), nicknamed Tiago, was a Spanish footballer who played as a defender. He was best known for his height, which he imposed on his opponents. His brother, Alfredo Massana, was also a footballer. Club career Born in Barcelona, he joined the first team of Ibèric FC during the 1903-04 season, forming a great defensive partnership with the club's goalkeeper, Pedro Gibert, who also were teammates at X Sporting Club and Club Español de Fútbol. José Marcelino YrÃzar Urbizu (5 October 1882 - 23 March 1935), better known as José IrÃzar was a Spanish footballer who played as a defender for Athletic Club and FC Barcelona. Although he always appeared as Irizar in the sports press, on his baptismal and death certificates his surname is written with a y. Club career Born in Bilbao, he began his career in 1903 with his hometown club Athletic Club. In the 1904 Copa del Rey Final, Athletic were declared winners after their opponents, Club Español de Madrid, failed to turn up. He was then a fundamental piece in the Athletic side that reached the final of the Copa del Rey three times in a row between 1905 and 1907, however, they all ended in losses at the hands of Madrid FC. Pedro Gibert (footballer)
Pedro Gibert Requesens (15 February 1888 – 9 October 1966) was a Spanish footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He was nicknamed Grapes because he allowed himself the luxury of blocking the ball with one hand. He was considered the best Catalan goalkeeper of his time and one of the first great idols of Espanyol, in fact, he was the idol of the great Ricardo Zamora. Club career Born in Catalonia, he joined the first team of Ibèric FC during the 1903-04 season, where he formed a great defensive partnership with Santiago Massana, and they also were teammates at X Sporting Club and RCD Espanyol.
