Luke Wyland
AU was a Portland, Oregon experimental pop group established by multi-instrumentalist Luke Wyland. Wyland started AU in 2005 while completing a degree at the Massachusetts College of Art. He later moved cross-country to Portland and established a base in its music community. Now a working live band, AU features an ever-changing roster of players, recently including Jonathan Sielaff (Parenthetical Girls, Nick Jaina) on guitar, clarinets and saw; and Dana Valatka (Mustaphamond) on drums. Contributors to AU's recordings included Mark Kaylor (Hamor of Hathor, CexFucx), Becky Dawson (Saw Whet, Ah Holly Fam’ly), and Sarah Winchester (A Weather). Mark Bryan Wyland (October 27, 1946) is a U.S. Republican politician from the state of California, who represented the 38th District in the California State Senate. Biography Wyland grew up in the city of Escondido. As a Fulbright Scholar, he earned a B.A. in International Relations from Pomona College, where he is a current trustee, and an M.A. in political science from Columbia University. After briefly working for the city of New York, he returned to Escondido and worked at Pine Tree Lumber Company, his family’s lumber and building materials business, where he worked his way up and eventually became a co-owner. Robert Wyland
Wyland (born July 9, 1956) is an American artist and conservationist best known for his more than 100 ''Whaling Walls'', large outdoor murals featuring images of life-size whales and other sea life to call attention to the plight of whales throughout the world. Life and career A native of Madison Heights, Michigan, Wyland began painting as a child and attended Detroit's Center for Creative Studies in the 1970s. His connection with whales began when he was 14 on a visit with his family to Laguna Beach, California where he saw the ocean for the first time and witnessed several gray whales migrating down the California coast towards Mexico. In 1977 he moved to Laguna Beach and in 1981 painted his first ''The Whaling Wall'' mural on the large wall of a Laguna Beach hotel parking lot. This original 1981 mural was obliterated in 1996 when it was painted over in a property ownership dispute. Wendy Wyland
Janna Wendy Wyland (November 25, 1964 – September 27, 2003) was a female diver from the United States. More commonly known as Wendy Wyland, she represented her native country at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California, winning the bronze medal in the Women's 10m Platform competition. Two years earlier, she won the world title in the same event. Biography Wyland was born in Jackson, Michigan to parents Vernon and Beth Wyland. Her family moved to Penfield, New York, where she was coached in diving by Betty Perkins-Carpenter from the age of six. When she was 14, she moved to Mission Viejo, California to train under Hall of Fame coach Ron O’Brien. She competed as a member of the Mission Viejo Nadadores Diving Team. While attending Florida Atlantic University at Boca Raton, Florida, Wyland trained for the 1988 Olympics at Mission Bay under O'Brien and alongside fellow athletes Greg Louganis, Michele Mitchell and Kent Ferguson.
