Wura is a rural locality in the Rockhampton Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Wura had a population of 17 people. Geography The locality is bounded to the east, south-east, and south by the Dee River. The Burnett Highway enters the locality from the north ( Oakey Creek) and exits to the south-west ( Dululu). History The locality takes its name from its former railway station, which is believed to be an Aboriginal word meaning ''kangaroo''. The Dawson Valley railway line from Mount Morgan to Wowan opened on 16 October 1912 with Wura being served by: * Konara railway station () * Gelobera railway station () * Wura railway station () This section of the line closed on 1 August 1987 and the station is now abandoned. Dee River (Queensland)
The Dee River is a river located in Central Queensland, Australia. Course and features Part of the Fitzroy River system, the Dee River rises in the Razorback Range south of Bouldercombe Gorge Resources Reserve near Mount Gavial, south of . The river flows generally south by west through the mining settlement of , Waluml and , where the river is crossed by the Burnett Highway. The river is joined by seven minor tributaries including Limestone Creek, Horse Creek, Hamilton Creek, Nine Mile Creek, Boulder Creek, Oaky Creek and Pruce Creek. The Dee River forms its confluence with the Don River near Rannes. Mount Morgan State High School
Mount Morgan State High School is a heritage-listed state high school and technical college at 4 Central Street, Mount Morgan, Rockhampton Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built in 1908. It was formerly known as Mount Morgan Technical College. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 4 December 2015. History Mount Morgan State High School was established in the central Queensland mining town of Mount Morgan in 1912, as one of Queensland's first secondary schools. It commenced operating on the Mount Morgan Technical College site, which the two institutions shared until 1964. The former Technical College Building (1908) and Science Block and Workshop (1913, extended 1918), both masonry buildings, are important in demonstrating the growth of technical colleges in Queensland and the establishment of state high schools. Mount Morgan Central State School
Central State School is a heritage-listed state school at 44 Morgan Street, Mount Morgan, Rockhampton Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built from 1887 to 1997. It is also known as Boys School. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. History The Central State School at Mount Morgan was opened in 1887 with an enrolment of 58 pupils, but this number rapidly grew and the first extension was begun the following year. Other buildings have been added as the school continued to expand. Both boys and girls have been taught at the school except during the period 1898-1930 when a separate girls' and infants' school operated elsewhere. The township of Mount Morgan grew with the establishment of what was to become the richest gold mine in the world. Mount Morgan Railway Station
Mount Morgan railway station is a heritage-listed railway station at Railway Parade, Mount Morgan, Rockhampton Region, Queensland, Australia. It is on the Mount Morgan - Wowan railway line. The station was constructed in 1898 to service the former goldrush and gold mining township of Mount Morgan and its mine. The station was designed by Henrik Hansen, who also designed the Archer Park, Shorncliffe and South Brisbane railway stations. The station operated as a functional railway station from 1898 until 1987, after which it was restored as a Railway Heritage Museum. The museum includes artefacts from the rail and mining history of Mount Morgan, including a restored Hunslett steam engine, "Silver Bullet" rail motor and timber rail carriages. Dawson Valley Railway Line
The Dawson Valley Branch Railway was a railway line in Central Queensland, Australia. It branched from the Central Western railway line at Kabra in the Rockhampton Region and went via Mount Morgan to Theodore in the Shire of Banana. It opened in a series of sections between 1898 and 1927, and featured a rack railway section, one of only 3 such systems in Australia. History Gold was discovered in the Mount Morgan region of Central Queensland in 1882. The Mount Morgan Gold Mining Company was authorised by government in 1890 to build a railway link to Rockhampton but it did not proceed. Revised plans were approved by Queensland Parliament in December 1896 for a government-built line. Kangaroos are four marsupials from the family Macropodidae (macropods, meaning "large foot").
