Wupper Valley Railway
The Wupper is a right tributary of the Rhine in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Rising near Marienheide in western Sauerland it runs through the mountainous region of the Bergisches Land in Berg County and enters the Rhine at Leverkusen, south of Düsseldorf. Its upper course is called the Wipper. Both names are related to "weave", and refer to the twisting course. On its course of about , the Wupper passes through the city of Wuppertal where the suspension railway runs for above the river. It is crossed by the highest railway bridge in Germany near Müngsten, between Remscheid and Solingen. A few kilometers further down, Burg Castle is located on a hill overlooking the river. Hydropower From the 15th century, the Wupper and its numerous streams gave birth to hundreds of workshops, mills and factories on their banks. Sauerland
The Sauerland () is a rural, hilly area spreading across most of the south-eastern part of North Rhine-Westphalia, in parts heavily forested and, apart from the major valleys, sparsely inhabited. The Sauerland is the largest tourist region in North Rhine-Westphalia, in particular for mountain biking and cycling, water sports and scenic recreation. The town and Skiliftkarussell Winterberg, Skiliftkarussell of Winterberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis is a major winter sport resort. Etymology The name ''Sauerland'' is first mentioned as ''Suderland'' in an official document from 1266. After 1400 the letter 'd' started to disappear. Therefore, Sauerland = ''southern country'' is the most convincing meaning, opposed to the theory that Sauer is from the German language, German word ''sauer'' meaning ''sour'' (poor "sour" soil). Linguistically, "suder-“ is similar to the Old Saxon ''sûðar'' (southbound). History Before 1800 the western part of the Sauerland was part of the Mark (c ...

Burg Castle (Solingen)
Burg Castle (german: Schloss Burg), located in Burg an der Wupper (Solingen), is the largest reconstructed castle in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany and a popular tourist attraction. Its early history is closely connected to the rise of the Duchy of Berg. Early history At the beginning of the 12th century (after 1133), Count Adolf III of Berg built Schloss Burg on a mountain overlooking the river Wupper. The old castle of the counts, Castle Berge in Odenthal near Altenberg, was abandoned. The original name of the new castle was Castle Neuenberge (Newmountain), or in Latin, novus mons, novum castrum, or novi montis castrum. Not until the 15th century, after significant reconstruction as a hunting castle, did it receive its current name reflecting its palatial extension. His great-grandson, Count Adolf VI of Berg took part in the Fifth Crusade and died during the siege of Damietta in Egypt in 1218. Since the late count had no male descendants his younger brother, Archbishop Enge ...
