Wujie Township () is a rural township in the eastern part of Yilan County, Taiwan. Townships are the third-level administrative subdivisions of counties of the Republic of China (Taiwan), along with county-administered cities. After World War II, the townships were established from the following conversions on the Japanese administrative divisions: Although local laws do not enforce strict standards for classifying them, generally urban townships have a larger population and more business and industry than rural townships, but not to the extent of county-administered cities. Under townships, there is still the village as the fourth or basic level of administration. Lin Yi-hsiung
Lin Yi-hsiung (; born 24 August 1941) is a politician from Taiwan. He was a major leader of the democratization movement in Taiwan. He graduated from the Department of Law of National Taiwan University. He was first exposed to politics in 1976 while serving as attorney for (1908–1985) who sued the ruling KMT party for electoral fraud. Lin was elected a member of Taiwan Provincial Consultative Council in Kuo's old electorate in 1977. Lin family massacre On 13 December 1979, Lin was arrested for his involvement in the Kaohsiung Incident. His wife, Fang Su-min, and mother were first allowed to visit him on 27 February 1980; Lin was in detention and had been beaten severely by Taiwanese police. Yilan International Children's Folklore And Folkgame Festival
The Yilan International Children's Folklore and Folkgame Festival (YICFFF; ) is an artistic festival in Taiwan, which has taken place during the summer vacation each year at the Dongshan River Water Park in Yilan County since 1996. *The festival was canceled in 2003 due to the outbreak of SARS. *Completion of the Hsuehshan Tunnel in 2006 made going to the YICFFF more convenient. *The government of Yilan announced the festival's cancellation in 2007. *The festival will be held again from July 3 to August 15 in 2010 as the DPP has again taken over the position as the government of Yilan since 2009. Closing down Yilan County Government announced on 8 August 2007 YICFFF would no longer be held due to a substantial loss of visitors and funds. National Center For Traditional Arts
The National Center for Traditional Arts (NCFTA; ) or also called Center for Traditional Arts is located by the river bank of Dongshan River in Wujie Township, Yilan County, Taiwan. The center's total area is 24 hectares. The goal of the center is overall planning, supporting the related research, promoting, preserving, and teaching the traditional arts, and also redefining, renovating, and developing the traditional arts. The park itself has become one of the most important tourist spots in Yilan. History The center was established in January 2002 as one of the agency of the Council for Cultural Affairs (CCA). Erjie Rice Barn
The Erjie Rice Barn, also known as the Erjie Peasant Association Barn, () is a former barn in Wujie Township, Yilan County, Taiwan. History The Erjie Rice Barn was built in 1928, when Taiwan was under Japanese rule. In 1935, a large brick storage warehouse and a mill were added to store public grain in the Wujie Township area. The warehouses were expanded in 1937 and 1953. During the Second World War, the Erjie Peasant Association Barn was responsible for purchasing rice on the south bank of the Lanyang River. In 1993, the barn ceased to be used for rice storage . The Erjie Rice Barn was announced as a county-level monument on 12 August 1998. Its upkeep is currently entrusted to the Erjie Cultural Foundation. Recently, the barn was renovated into a venue for cultural preservation. Architecture The barn spans over an area of 3,000 m2. Yilan County, alternately spelled I-lan, is a County (Taiwan), county in northeastern Taiwan, Republic of China. Name The name ''Yilan'' derives from the Taiwanese indigenous peoples, indigenous Kavalan people. Dongshan River Water Park
Dongshan River Water Park (), established in 1993, is a park located in Wujie, Yilan, Wujie Township, Yilan County, Taiwan, Yilan County, Taiwan, on the shores of the Dongshan River. Its slogan is "Near water, Have green" (親近水、擁有綠). It is one of Taiwan's most famous scenic spots. The Chung Hsing Cultural and Creative Park () is a multi-purpose park in Wujie Township, Yilan County, Taiwan. History The building was originally constructed in 1935 as a paper manufacturing company. They produced papers using silvergrass and sugarcane waste pulping technology. In 1959, the company became a state-owned enterprise and was renamed Taiwan Chung Hsing Paper Corporation. They modernized their paper manufacturing process by using chemical processes. Their main products were newsprint, banknotes, lottery paper, toilet paper and wood-free paper.
