Wrigley, Northwest Territories
Wrigley (South Slavey language: ''Pehdzeh Ki'' "clay place") is a "Designated Authority" in the Dehcho Region of the Northwest Territories, Canada. The Slavey Dene community is located on the east bank of the Mackenzie River, just below its confluence with the Wrigley River and about northwest of Yellowknife. Originally situated at Fort Wrigley, downstream, the community relocated to its present location in 1965, in part because it was more easily accessible due to the World War II era Wrigley Airport built for the Canol Project and also due to the swampy nature of the land around Fort Wrigley. Today the community can be reached via the Mackenzie Highway. The population continues to maintain a traditional lifestyle, trapping, hunting, and fishing. Pehdzeh Ki First Nation
The Pehdzeh Ki First Nation is a member of the Dehcho First Nations in the Northwest Territories of Canada. The Pehdzeh Ki First Nation is located in Wrigley. The community is located along the Mackenzie River and the Mackenzie Highway ends at Wrigley. Pehdzeh Ki First Nation has over 300 band members but only a few live in the community. Yellowknife
Yellowknife (; Dogrib: ) is the capital, largest community, and only city in the Northwest Territories, Canada. It is on the northern shore of Great Slave Lake, about south of the Arctic Circle, on the west side of Yellowknife Bay near the outlet of the Yellowknife River. Yellowknife and its surrounding water bodies were named after a local Dene tribe, who were known as the "Copper Indians" or "Yellowknife Indians", today incorporated as the Yellowknives Dene First Nation. They traded tools made from copper deposits near the Arctic Coast. Its population, which is ethnically mixed, was 19,569 per the 2016 Canadian Census. Rabbitkettle Hot Springs
Rabbitkettle Hot Springs is a naturally occurring hot spring located in the Northwest Territories of Canada. The springs are found in the Nahanni National Park Reserve, along the South Nahanni River. Rabbitkettle Hot Springs are situated on a limestone plateau and comprise two large travertine mounds. At high and in diameter, the free-standing North Mound is the largest travertine mound in Canada. The South Mound has grown into a nearby hillside and is not as tall. They are the only tufa mounds in the world known to be located on permafrost. The mounds are multi-colored and tiered. The name Rabbitkettle comes from the Dene word ''gahnhthah'', meaning "kettle". The translation was adopted by English-speaking locals as "Rabbitkettle", from the peculiar shapes of the basins in the area. Mackenzie Highway
The Mackenzie Highway is a Canadian highway in northern Alberta and the Northwest Territories. It begins as Alberta Highway 2 at ''Mile Zero'' in Grimshaw, Alberta. After the first , it becomes Alberta Highway 35 for the balance of its length through Alberta and then becomes Northwest Territories Highway 1. Canol Road
The Canol Road was part of the Canol Project and was built to construct a pipeline from Norman Wells, Northwest Territories, to Whitehorse, Yukon, during World War II. The pipeline no longer exists, but the long Yukon portion of the road is maintained by the Yukon Government during summer months. The portion of the road that still exists in the NWT is called the Canol Heritage Trail. Both road and trail are incorporated into the Trans-Canada Trail. The Canol Road starts at Johnsons Crossing, Yukon, Johnson's Crossing on the Alaska Highway near the Teslin River bridge, east of Whitehorse, Yukon, and runs to the Northwest Territories border.
