Wright State Raiders
The Wright State Raiders are the athletics teams of Wright State University in Fairborn, Ohio. The school currently participates in ten sports at the Division I level of the NCAA and are members of the Horizon League. The school's mascot is a wolf. History Wright State was founded in 1964 as a branch campus of both Miami University (Ohio) and Ohio State University. The school began its athletic program in 1968 as an NCAA Division II school, where the athletics program achieved great success, having over 200 All-American athletes and winning the 1983 Division II Men's Basketball national championship. In 1987, Wright State began the transition to Division I athletics, with its first tournament qualifier being a golfer in 1988. In swimming, the school spent time in the Penn-Ohio Conference. Horizon League
The Horizon League is an 11-school collegiate athletic conference in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I, whose members are located in and near the Great Lakes region. The Horizon League founded in 1979 as the Midwestern City Conference. The conference changed its name to Midwestern Collegiate Conference in 1985 and then the Horizon League in 2001. The conference started with a membership of six teams and has fluctuated in size with 24 different schools as members at different times. The League currently has 11 members. Its most recent membership changes occurred on July 1, 2022 with the departure of the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) to the Missouri Valley Conference. Wright State Raiders Women's Basketball
The Wright State Raiders team is the NCAA Division 1 basketball team that represents Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. The school's team currently competes in the Horizon League. The Raiders are currently coached by Kari Hoffman. The Raiders play at the Wright State University Nutter Center in Fairborn, Ohio. The official capacity for basketball games is 10,400. History Wright State first sponsored women's basketball in 1973. In 1990 Wright State joined the North Star Conference, where they played until 1992 when the conference was effectively absorbed by the Mid-Continent Conference. In 1995 Wright State would move to the Midwestern Collegiate Conference. The conference changed its name to the Horizon League on June 4, 2001. Sean Murphy (baseball)
Sean Michael Murphy (born October 4, 1994) is an American professional baseball catcher for the Atlanta Braves of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has previously played in MLB for the Oakland Athletics. Murphy made his MLB debut in 2019 with the Athletics and won a Gold Glove Award in 2021. Amateur career Murphy attended Centerville High School in Centerville, Ohio, and Wright State University, where he played college baseball for the Wright State Raiders. In 2015, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod Baseball League, and was named a league all-star. He was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the third round of the 2016 Major League Baseball draft. Frank Lickliter
Franklin Ray Lickliter II (born July 28, 1969) is an American professional golfer. He featured in the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking, going as high as 41st in 2001. Early life Lickliter was born in Middletown, Ohio, adjacent to his hometown of Franklin, Ohio. Lickliter is a 1987 graduate of Franklin High School and a 1991 graduate of nearby Wright State University. Professional career Lickliter turned professional in 1991. He first joined the Nike Tour (now called the Korn Ferry Tour), where he earned a win in 1995. He joined the PGA Tour in 1996, and won events in 2001 and 2003. His best finish in a major is T4 at the 1998 PGA Championship. In 2007 he finished 139th on the PGA Tour money list, which was not good enough to retain his card for 2008. Keith Bradley Gordon (born January 22, 1969) is a former professional baseball player. He appeared in three games for the Cincinnati Reds of Major League Baseball (MLB) in its 1993 season. William Allen Edwards (born August 28, 1971) is an American former professional basketball player. He was a 2.03 m (6'8") tall small forward-power forward. His nickname was "Dollar Bill Edwards". College career Edwards played college basketball at Wright State University, where he became one of the school's legends. He was voted the Summit League Player of the Year in 1993.
