Wrestling At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's Greco-Roman 84 Kg
Men's Greco-Roman 84 kilograms competition at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, was held on August 14 at the China Agricultural University Gymnasium. Italian wrestler Andrea Minguzzi won the gold medal in this event. This Greco-Roman wrestling competition consists of a single-elimination tournament, with a repechage used to determine the winner of two bronze medals. The two finalists face off for gold and silver medals. Each wrestler who loses to one of the two finalists moves into the repechage, culminating in a pair of bronze medal matches featuring the semifinal losers each facing the remaining repechage opponent from their half of the bracket. Each bout consists of up to three rounds, lasting two minutes apiece. The wrestler who scores more points in each round is the winner of that rounds; the bout ends when one wrestler has won two rounds (and thus the match). The China Agricultural University Gymnasium () is an indoor arena located on the campus of the China Agricultural University in Beijing. Shalva Gadabadze ( az, Şalva Qadabadze; born May 30, 1984, in Tbilisi, Georgian SSR) is an amateur Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestler, who competes in the men's light heavyweight category. He won two bronze medals at the 2009 European Wrestling Championships in Vilnius, Lithuania, and at the 2011 European Wrestling Championships in Dortmund, Germany. Mélonin Noumonvi
Mélonin Noumonvi (born 10 October 1982 in Paris) is a French Greco-Roman (under 84 kg) wrestler. At the Beijing 2008 Olympics, he lost to the eventual champion Andrea Minguzzi of Italy in the round of 16 and lost the bronze medal bout to Sweden's Ara Abrahamian. However, after Abrahamian refused to take home the bronze medal, he decided to take it. However, the IOC would not allow him that medal, as it was not affected by Abrahamian's tantrum. Furious, Noumonvi began to attack the IOC, but was stopped by security. He was eventually banned from wrestling for a year, but as of 2010, his ban has been lifted. Kim Jung-Sub (born October 11, 1975) is an amateur South Korean Greco-Roman wrestler, who played for the men's light heavyweight category. Kim had won three medals (gold, silver, and bronze) for his division at the Asian Games (1998 in Bangkok, 2002 in Busan, and 2006 in Doha). Ara Abrahamian
Ara Abrahamian ( hy , Արա Աբրահամյան; born 27 July 1975) is an Armenian-Swedish wrestler in Greco-Roman wrestling. He has won two World Championships in the 76 kg and 84 kg weight classes and a silver medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in the 84 kg weight class. He also won the bronze match at the 2008 Summer Olympics, but he rejected the medal because of a controversial ruling in the semifinal. During the highly publicised medal ceremony, Abrahamian protested by placing the medal in the center of the mat and walking away. He was later disqualified by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and stripped of his rejected bronze medal for disrupting the award ceremony.
