Wovenhand
Wovenhand (also stylized Woven Hand) is an American rock band from Denver, Colorado, United States, led by former 16 Horsepower frontman David Eugene Edwards. Wovenhand's songs are known for their strong and unsettling Biblical references, influenced by Edwards' atypically dark approach to his Christian faith. History The band began in 2001 as a solo project for Edwards while 16 Horsepower was taking a temporary hiatus. Wovenhand's first live shows were performed by Edwards and multi-instrumentalist Daniel McMahon; the self-titled debut album was released in 2002 on Glitterhouse Records. Performances following this record featured Edwards, McMahon, drummer Ordy Garrison and cellist Paul Fonfara. 2003 saw the release of ''Blush Music'', the score to a dance performance mostly composed of reworked material from the first record. David Eugene Edwards
David Eugene Edwards (born February 24, 1968 in Englewood, Colorado) is an American musician. He is the lead singer of Wovenhand, and also the main songwriter and the principal musician on the recordings of the band. He is the former lead singer of 16 Horsepower. Their music contains elements of old-time, folk, punk, medieval, gypsy, Native American music, and most recently late 1980s and early 1990s Gothic Rock. Lyrically, it deals with pain, conflict, faith, and redemption, with Edwards' personal Christian beliefs influencing much of the lyrical imagery. Edwards, along with Jean-Yves Tola and Pascal Humbert (together as 16 Horsepower) performs on the soundtrack to the Jim White-inspired film '' Searching for the Wrong-Eyed Jesus'', playing the traditional "Wayfarin' Stranger." Pascal Humbert is a French bass player who is currently in Lilium and Détroit. He was previously in Tanit (1981–1985), Passion Fodder (1985–1991), 16 Horsepower (1992–1993, 1996–2005) and Wovenhand (2008–2010). Career Tanit Humbert's first artistic involvement was with Tanit, a band he formed in Paris in 1981 with Elsa Drezner and Thierry Bertomeu. 16 Horsepower was an American band based in Denver, Colorado, United States. Their music often invoked religious imagery dealing with conflict, redemption, punishment, and guilt through David Eugene Edwards's lyrics and the heavy use of traditional bluegrass, gospel, and Appalachian instrumentation cross-bred with rock. For the bulk of its career, the band consisted of Edwards, Jean-Yves Tola, and Pascal Humbert, the latter two formerly of the French band Passion Fodder. Glitterhouse Records is a German independent record label and mail order company based in Beverungen, North Rhine-Westphalia. It was founded in the mid-1980s. From the late 1980s until the mid-1990s it was the European branch of the American label Sub Pop. Lilium is a musical project begun by French musician Pascal Humbert, a member of the groups 16 Horsepower and Wovenhand. Lilium is now a two-piece augmented by frequent guests based in Denver, Colorado, USA. History The project began in 1984, centered on home recordings and informal studio projects by Humbert, mostly solo. Humbert lived in Paris at the time and played bass guitar in his long-running art rock group Passion Fodder. Relocated to Los Angeles, California, in 1992, Humbert rejoined with drummer Jean-Yves Tola (also of Passion Fodder) and American singer-songwriter David Eugene Edwards to form 16 Horsepower.
