''Wounded: The Bandit Queen'' is a 2007 Hindi language film that was directed by Krishna Mishra. The film was first released on 9 March 2007. The film is based on the true story of Seema Parihar, who plays herself in the film. Plot Parihar was abducted at the age of 13 from her village and the film depicts her transformation into a bandit. Seema Parihar
Seema Parihar is an Indian politician and former bandit. She was a member of the Samajwadi Party. Parihar claims that her inspiration is Phoolan Devi, who was known as the Bandit Queen, and had also been a bandit before becoming a politician. She was a contestant in ''Bigg Boss'' in 2010. Biography Seema Parihar was born in Auraiya in Uttar Pradesh, India in a poor family. She was kidnapped in 1983, at the age of 13 from her village of Bawine in Uttar Pradesh by dacoits Lala Ram and Kusuma Nian, and became a dacoit herself. In 1986, she married dacoit Nirbhay Singh Gujjar, but later returned to Lala Ram. Parihar became the leader of her gang, and engaged in looting, kidnapping and murder in the regions surrounding Bihand jungle and Chambal River. During her career, she killed 70 people, kidnapped 200 people and looted 30 houses. In June 2000, after 18 years of dacoity, she surrendered to Uttar Pradesh police. ''Bandit Queen'' is a 1994 Indian Hindi-language biographical action-adventure film based on the life of Phoolan Devi as covered in the book ''India's Bandit Queen: The True Story of Phoolan Devi'' by the Indian author Mala Sen. It was written, produced, and directed by Shekhar Kapur and starred Seema Biswas as the title character. The music was composed by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. The film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi, Filmfare Critics Award for Best Movie and Best Direction for that year. The film was premiered in the Directors' Fortnight section of the 1994 Cannes Film Festival, and was screened at the Edinburgh Film Festival. Phoolan Devi
Phoolan Devi (1963–2001), popularly known as the Bandit Queen, was an Mallah woman who grew up in poverty in a village in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Her family was in a land dispute which caused many problems in her youth and after being repeatedly sexually abused and married off at the age of 11, she joined a dacoit group, later becoming a bandit leader. Her gang robbed higher caste villages and held up trains and vehicles. She became a hero of the lower castes for being a Robin Hood figure who punished her rapists and evaded capture by the authorities for several years. She surrendered in 1983 in a carefully negotiated settlement and served 11 years in Gwalior prison. When she was released, she became a politician, standing as a Member of Parliament for the Samajwadi Party in 1996. She lost her seat in 1998 and regained it in 1999.
