Worth Matravers
Worth Matravers () is a village and civil parish in the English county of Dorset. The village is situated on the cliffs west of Swanage. It comprises limestone cottages and farm houses and is built around a pond, which is a regular feature on postcards of the Isle of Purbeck. The civil parish stretches from the coast northwards to, and just beyond, the A351 road from Corfe Castle to Swanage. The village of Worth Matravers is situated on side roads towards the south of the parish, which also includes the village of Harman's Cross on the main road to the north. The cliffs of Worth Matravers were the site of a Chain Home radar station during World War II, which was instrumental in the development of radar when the Telecommunications Research Establishment outstation shared the site from 1940 until 1942 when it was relocated to Malvern, Worcestershire. Worth syndrome, also known as benign form of Worth hyperostosis corticalis generalisata with torus platinus, autosomal dominant osteosclerosis, autosomal dominant endosteal hyperostosis or Worth disease, is a rare autosomal dominant congenital disorder that is caused by a mutation in the LRP5 gene. It is characterized by increased bone density and benign bony structures on the palate. Causes Worth syndrome is caused by a mutation in the LRP5 gene, located on human chromosome 11q13.4. The disorder is inherited in an autosomal dominant fashion. This indicates that the defective gene responsible for a disorder is located on an autosome (chromosome 11 is an autosome), and only one copy of the defective gene is sufficient to cause the disorder, when inherited from a parent who has the disorder. George Worth
George Vitéz Worth (born György Woittitz; April 1, 1915 – January 15, 2006) was a Hungarian-born American sabre Olympic medalist fencer. Early and personal life Worth was born György Woittitz in Budapest, Hungary, and was Jewish. Because of the political climate in Hungary in 1937, Worth sought to emigrate to the United States, but he was unable to do so directly because he was Jewish and spent two years in Cuba. Worth finally came to the United States, and changed his name to George Worth, and at the age of 22 he was living in Manhattan in New York City. He became a US citizen. Worth served for the US in World War II, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge in 1944 and 1945, winning several Bronze Stars. Brian Worth (30 July 1914 – 25 August 1978) was an English actor, known for '' Scrooge'' (1951), ''The Man in the White Suit'' (1951) and ''An Inspector Calls'' (1954). He died on 25 August 1978 aged 64. Educated in Britain and America, he learnt the technical side of commercial advertising films before deciding to turn to acting. Bobby Worth (September 25, 1912 in Cleveland, Ohio – July 17, 2002 in Mission Hills, California) was an American songwriter. His best known songs are "Do I Worry?", "'Til Reveille", "Tonight We Love", and "Don't You Know?". Worth was considered a child prodigy, performing in classical concerts at ten years of age. In his teens, he performed in Gus Edwards' vaudeville acts. In 1940, at age 28, he moved to Hollywood, California, and teamed with songwriter Stanley Cowan in 1941 to begin writing for movie studios. From the 1940s onward, songs by Worth were recorded by prominent artists including Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, and Ella Fitzgerald.
