Dirge (album)
''Dirge'' is the second studio album by Singaporean grindcore band Wormrot. It was released on 3 May 2011 by Earache Records. The digital version of the album was released for free download in prior due to an online leak. Musical style Compared to the band's previous album ''Abuse'', ''Dirge'' is said to feature less of a death metal influence in favor of a punk rock- and crust-indebted sound while still staying firm in their metallic roots. According to Allmusic, the album features 25 songs, "every one a relentless assault of grinding guitar (doubled in the studio to give extra heft), anarchic yet complex drumming, and hoarse, agitated vocals." The shortest track on the record, "You Suffer But Why Is It My Problem", pays tribute to Napalm Death. The track "Deceased Occupation" is driven by a sludgy riff reminiscent of Eyehategod, while the track "Principle of Puppet Warfare" was described as "a pure punk rock slam-fuel." In an interview with ''Exclaim!'', guitarist Rasyid state ...

Earache Records
Earache Records is a British independent record label, music publisher and management company founded by Digby Pearson in 1985, based in Nottingham, England, with offices in London and New York. The label helped to pioneer extreme metal by releasing early grindcore and death metal records between the late 1980s and mid-1990s. Its roster has since diversified into more mainstream guitar music, working with bands such as Rival Sons, the Temperance Movement, Blackberry Smoke, Scarlet Rebels and the White Buffalo. The company also hosted the 'Earache Express' stage at Glastonbury Festival in 2017 and 'The Earache Factory' at Boomtown 2018. The label's logo is a homage to ''Thrasher'' magazine, as Pearson was a skateboard culture enthusiast. History Earache was founded in 1985 by Digby Pearson who prior to launching the label proper had compiled 'Anglican Scrape Attic', a proto-compilation of early hardcore punk and crossover thrash acts which included Hirax, Lipcream and Concret ...

Grindcore
Grindcore is an extreme fusion genre of heavy metal and hardcore punk that originated in the mid-1980s, drawing inspiration from abrasive-sounding musical styles, such as thrashcore, crust punk, hardcore punk, extreme metal, and industrial. Grindcore is considered a more noise-filled style of hardcore punk while using hardcore's trademark characteristics such as heavily distorted, down-tuned guitars, grinding overdriven bass, high-speed tempo, blast beats, and vocals which consist of growls, shouts and high-pitched shrieks. Early groups like Napalm Death are credited with laying the groundwork for the style. It is most prevalent today in North America and Europe, with popular contributors such as Brutal Truth and Nasum. Lyrical themes range from a primary focus on social and political concerns, to gory subject matter and black humor. A trait of grindcore is the "microsong" much shorter than average for punk or metal; several bands have produced songs that are only seconds i ...

Biquette
Biquette (French ), also known as Biquette de Mauriac, the Grindcore Goat or the Punk Rock Goat ( 2003 - December 2013), was a rescued factory milking goat, whose photos taken as a part of the audience during punk rock and heavy metal concerts became viral on the internet. History According to Biquette's caretaker at the communal farm Ferme de Mauriac, the goat spent her first five years (probably ca. 2003–2008) at a milking factory before being handed over to Mauriac because "it was cheaper than a slaughterhouse". Biquette first rose to popularity in early 2012 due to photos and recordings of Singaporean grindcore band Wormrot's concert in Mauriac, with Biquette in the front row. BuzzFeed dubbed Biquette "Punk Rock Goat", and Metal Insider called her photo "one of the best images in metal". According to Wormrot's manager, Biquette was very tame and followed the band around "like a dog". Biquette's caretaker Flo said in an interview that the goat loved concerts and other ga ...

Baybeats
Baybeats is an annual 3-day alternative music festival organized by Esplanade, and held in Singapore. It showcases various local acts such as regional and international artists. The festival is located at Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay and is 100% free and non-ticketed. The 3 main performing stages include the Baybeats Arena (Outdoor Theatre), Powerhouse Stage (The Edge) and the Chillout Stage (Concourse). Additionally, there is a series of magazine-style interview sessions at the Observation Deck (Library@Esplanade). Baybeats was launched in 2002 by John Chiong (WMUM) primarily to create a platform to showcase indie-rock musicians in Asia, especially local musicians, and to expose Singapore audiences to quality acts in the genre. Esplanade saw a gap in the market in terms of platforms for indie musicians to perform at and the need to satisfy the audience's needs for this kind of music, which no other commercial presenter was bringing into Singapore at that time. The festival p ...
