World Heavyweight Boxing Championship
At boxing's beginning, the heavyweight division had no weight limit, and historically the weight class has gone with vague or no definition. During the 19th century many heavyweights were 170 pounds (12 st 2 lb, 77 kg) or less, though others weighed considerably more. John L. Sullivan was the first widely recognized champion under Marquess of Queensberry rules. Known as the "Boston Strong Boy," Sullivan weighed around 200 pounds when in shape, and helped transition the sport from its bare-knuckle era. Sullivan would be defeated for the title by "Gentleman" Jim Corbett over 21 rounds on September 7, 1892, the first heavyweight titleholder solely under Queensberry rules. The World Boxing Association (WBA), formerly known as the National Boxing Association (NBA), is the oldest and one of four major organizations which sanction professional boxing bouts, alongside the World Boxing Council (WBC), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Organization (WBO). Trevor Cosmo Bryan Jr (born August 23, 1989) is an American professional boxer and former WBA (Regular) heavyweight Champion. Early life Trevor Bryan was born on August 23, 1989 in Albany, New York. He began boxing at the age of 11, and had a very promising but short amateur career. He is trained by Stacey McKinley, a former trainer of Mike Tyson and promoted by boxing promoter Don King. Professional career Bryan made his professional debut in May 2011 defeating Demarcus Young by RTD in the second round in Hollywood, Florida. In August 2015, Bryan beat Derric Rossy in Las Vegas, Nevada and won the WBC- NABF Junior heavyweight title. International Boxing Hall Of Fame
The modern International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF), located in Canastota, New York, honors boxers, trainers and other contributors to the sport worldwide. Inductees are selected by members of the Boxing Writers Association of America. The IBHOF started as a 1990 initiative by Ed Brophy to honour Canastota's world boxing champions, Carmen Basilio and Basilio's nephew, Billy Backus; the village of Canastota inaugurated the new museum, which showcases boxing's rich history.
