World Team Championship (pool)
The World Team Championship is a pool World Championship for national teams sanctioned by the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA). the event founded in 2010 by the WPA and was held every two years until 2014; the event was revived in 2022. History The first edition of the World Team Championship was contested in 2010 in Hanover. The British team of Darren Appleton, Daryl Peach, Imran Majid, Karl Boyes and Mark Gray won the tournament in the final against the Philippines. The next two editions of the championship were contested in Beijing. The third edition in 2012 was won by the Chinese Taipei team of Chang Jung-lin, Fu Che-wei, Ko Pin-yi and Chuo Chieh-yu defeating Japan in the final. The third event in 2014 was won by the Chinese team of Liu Haitao, Wang Can, Fu Xiaofang, Liu Shasha and Dang Jinhu defeating the Philippines in the final. Pool (cue Sports)
Pool is a classification of cue sports played on a table with six pockets along the , into which balls are deposited. "Pool billiards" is sometimes hyphenated and/or spelled with a singular "billiard". The WPA itself uses "pool-billiard" in its logo but "pool-billiards" in its legal notices. The organization compounds the words to result in an acronym of "WPA", "WPBA" having already been taken by the Women's Professional Billiards Association. Normal English grammar would not hyphenate here, and the term is actually a Germanism. A general rules booklet on pool games in general, including eight-ball, nine-ball and several others. Ko Pin-yi
Ko Pin-yi (born 31 May 1989) is a Taiwanese professional pool player. He became multiple World Champion in the disciplines of 9-ball and 10-ball in 2015. Career Ko defeated Carlo Biado in the final of the 2015 WPA World Ten-ball Championship. He then defeated Shane Van Boening in the final of the 2015 WPA World Nine-ball Championship. At the junior level, Ko twice won the World Nine-ball Junior Championship in 2007 and 2008. Personal Ko is the oldest of three brothers. His younger brothers, Ko Ping-chung and Ko Ping Han, are also professional pool players. Double-elimination Tournament
A double-elimination tournament is a type of elimination tournament competition in which a participant ceases to be eligible to win the tournament's championship upon having lost ''two'' games or matches. It stands in contrast to a single-elimination tournament, in which only ''one'' defeat results in elimination. One method of arranging a double-elimination tournament is to break the competitors into two sets of brackets, the ''winners' bracket'' and ''losers' bracket'' (''W'' and ''L'' brackets for short; also referred to as ''championship bracket'' and ''elimination bracket'', ''upper bracket'' and ''lower bracket'', or ''main bracket'' and ''repechage'') after the first round. Rubilen Amit
Rubilen "Bingkay" Amit (born October 3, 1981) is a Filipino female professional pocket billiards (pool) player. Amit is the first Filipino woman to become a world pool champion. Biography Rubilen Amit was born in Mandaue, Cebu. Amit began playing during her teens, often tagging along with her father Bobby at the Super Bowl in Makati. In college, she studied accountancy at the University of Santo Tomas. She participated in and won the 2000 and 2001 College of Commerce and Business Administration's billiards tournaments. After graduating in 2004, Amit worked as a call center agent for a year. In 2005, she was accepted to the Philippine pool national team. However, in early 2013, Amit, along with other top Filipino pool players, was removed from the national team due to a controversial reorganization of the national team by the Billiards and Snooker Congress of the Philippines. Johann Chua
Johann Gonzales Chua is a Filipino professional pool player from Manila. His nickname is "Bad Koi". Early life Born and raised in Bacolod in the central Philippines, Chua began playing pool at the age of nine. He was often accompanied to the local pool hall by his father who gave him the nickname "Bubwit" or little mouse due to the fact that he was too little to be seen behind the pool table. Chua quit schooling at 13 to pursue his passion and began playing professionally at the age of 19. Career In October 2011, Johann Chua was ninth at the BSCP National Open Pool Championships Overall. Carlo Biado
Carlo Biado (born October 31, 1983) is a Filipino professional pool player. Early life Biado has roots in Rosario, La Union and/or Nueva Ecija. He started playing pool when he was age 13 and worked as a caddie at the Villamor Air Base golf course while he was still a student. After work he would play billiards in the evening. He stopped pursuing high school education when he was on his first year and the sport serves as a means of livelihood. He earned money from bets in the billiards place he helps manage. Career Biado became a professional pool player in 2004 but failed to win any major world title within his first ten years. In 2015, Biado reached the final of the WPA World Ten-ball Championship, defeating David Alcaide and Nikos Ekonomopoulos in the knockout rounds.
