World Series Sprintcars
World Series Sprintcars is a dirt track racing series held in Australia for Sprintcars. It is the richest and best known Speedway series in Australia. History The series was conceived by Adelaide based sedan driver and promoter John Hughes in 1986 as an Australian version of the famous World of Outlaws (WoO) series run in the United States since 1978. The WSS is separate from the single meeting Australian Sprintcar Championship and is currently run over 12 rounds during the Australian Speedway season. The championship is open to drivers of any nationality, and is usually held from December until February. As it is held during the North American off-season, many visiting stars from North America will make visits, some even racing the majority of races before the North American season begins. Perth Motorplex is a motorsport venue located at Kwinana Beach, Western Australia. It caters mainly for drag racing and speedway, although other events are held there regularly. Over 275,000 patrons attend the venue each year to many varied events. The Perth Motorplex holds rounds of the World Series Sprintcars championship. History Perth Motorplex (formerly Quit Motorplex) opened in 2000. It replaced the Claremont Speedway which was run at the Claremont Showground from 1927, and the Ravenswood Raceway Drag Racing strip. Many Claremont loyalists were unhappy with the change saying it destroyed almost 75 years of heritage as were many Ravenswood fans. Donald R. Schatz (born August 10, 1977) is an American professional sprint car racing driver who competes full-time in the World of Outlaws, driving the No. 15 Ford for Tony Stewart Racing. Schatz is a ten-time champion in the World of Outlaws with a current total of 306 wins. Racing career Schatz is son of Danny Christ Schatz, a sprint car driver in the 1970s, and Diane Korgel. Joey Saldana
Joey Saldana (born March 14, 1972), known as the "Brownsburg Bullet", is an American sprint car racing driver. He is the son of former sprint car and Indy car driver Joe Saldana. Saldana began racing at the local Indiana tracks close to his home in the early 1990s. He then moved up to the All Star Circuit of Champions, where he won 18 races in 1995. He ran occasionally with the World of Outlaws winning his first race with the series in 1995 and then began touring full-time with the series in 1996 capturing Rookie of the Year honors. He finished third in points in 2003 and 2006 and second in 2007. He won 20 races (one of only six racers to do so in a season) in 2009 on his way to third in points for Kasey Kahne's race team. Jack Hewitt
Jack Hewitt (born July 8, 1951, Troy, Ohio), is a former racecar driver who was prolific in various open wheel and sprint car series. He was a two-time champion in the USAC Silver Crown Series in 1986 and 1987 and is second all-time in Silver Crown wins list with 23. In the USAC National Sprint Car series, he is 4th in all-time wins with 46. He also won the All Star Circuit of Champions championship in 1985 and his 56 wins in that series place him in the top 5 all-time. The Australian Speedcar Championship is a Dirt track racing, dirt track motor racing championship held in Australia each year to determine the Australian national champion in midget car racing. The single championship meeting, run over two nights in either late January or early February, has been held each year since first being run at the Tracey's Speedway in Melbourne in 1935. Over the years there have been at times more than one Australian Championship meeting held in Australia (and sometimes in the same city) due to being sanctioned by different governing bodies.
