World Military Championships
The World Military Championships (WMC) are the world championships of the military sports, regularly organized by the Conseil International du Sport Militaire, in each of the 26 disciplines of the sport military. History CISM had its roots in World War II. Eighty-two free world nations competed in about 24 different sports. The United States participates in 12 of those sports. Athletes who have done well at the interservice championships, national and international level are invited into a CISM training camp, which operates much like military training camps. The World Military Track & Field Championships are the world championships of athletics organized by the International Military Sports Council (CISM). Initially an annual competition, the championships have been held on an irregular schedule since 1971. The 2011 Championships was the 44th edition. International Military Sports Council
The International Military Sports Council (IMSC) or Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM), is an international sports association, established in 1948 and headquartered in Brussels. It is the world's second-largest multi-discipline sports organisation, after the International Olympic Committee, holding more than 20 competitions annually. Under its auspices, soldiers who may previously have met on the battlefield compete on the sports playing field. CISM organises various sporting events, including the Military World Games and World Military Championships, for the armed forces of 140 member countries. The aim of CISM is to promote sport activity and physical education between armed forces as a means to foster world peace. World Military Cup
The World Military Cup is a football competition for national military teams. It is organized by the International Military Sports Council (CISM). The tournament has been held since 1946 and was originally called the World Military Championship. The name changed for the 2001 edition. When the multi-sport Military World Games was set up in 1995, the football championship was incorporated into it, but it is still being held independently every two years. A women's tournament, World Military Women's Championship, was started in 2001. World Military Basketball Championship is a championship annually held in the beginning of summer between men and women serving in the military from around the world. 2009 Preliminary round The 2009 championship was held in Klaipėda, Lithuania. Ten nations participated in this event in Taikos 61 Sports Center in Klaipėda, Lithuania. The arrival of the teams occurred on June 6, 2009. The nations were divided into two groups of five. In the preliminary round, nations would battle each other once for a total of 4 games. Then, the top two teams would qualify to the finals (1st-4th place), and the next two teams would qualify to relegation round (5th-8th place). Teams will depart on June 15, 2009.
