The World Freerunning Parkour Federation (WFPF) is an international federation or organization that was established in 2007. Its focus is to bring together patrons of Parkour and Freerunning and aims to bring the sport and philosophy to the mainstream audience. Parkour
Parkour () is an athletic training discipline or sport in which practitioners (called ''traceurs'') attempt to get from point A to point B in the fastest and most efficient way possible, without assisting equipment and often while performing artistic-gymnastic maneuvers. With roots in military obstacle course training and martial arts, parkour includes running, climbing, swinging, vaulting, jumping, plyometrics, rolling, gymnastics, and quadrupedal movement—whatever is suitable for a given situation. Freerunning
Freerunning is an athletic and acrobatic discipline incorporating an aesthetic element, and can be considered either a sport or a performance art, or both. Freerunning is similar to parkour, from which it is derived, but emphasizes artistry over efficiency and speed. Freerunning involves interacting with physical obstacles in creative ways, such as by climbing, jumping or running; the obstacles may be purpose-built or may be part of a pre-existing natural or man-made environment. The movements are usually adopted from other sports, such as gymnastics, tricking or breakdancing. Freerunners can create their own moves, flows and lines in different landscapes. Daniel Marcus Ilabaca (born 23 January 1988) is a freerunner and traceur from Moreton, Merseyside, England. He along with Ryan Doyle, is the founder of the World Freerunning and Parkour Federation. Personal life Ilabaca was born on 23 January 1988 in Moreton, England. He has a brother, Chris Ilabaca, who often films and edits his videos. Career Daniel first noticed Parkour after seeing a man on the street perform a wall flip and wanted to be able to do the same. He later took up the Brazilian martial art Capoeira, but was disappointed with its limitations. He then took up parkour and freerunning. Ryan Doyle
Ryan Doyle (born 22 September 1984) is a freerunner, martial artist, coach, and actor from Liverpool, England, and is a founding athlete of the World Freerunning and Parkour Federation. Freerunning and parkour interests In his teenage years, Doyle trained in the Korean martial art of Kuk Sool Won, and developed his running style by adding his own freerunning movements to the martial arts techniques he had learned. Doyle began his freerunner career by winning the 2007 Art of Motion competition in Vienna. He broke his leg in the competition while attempting a trick from a 12-foot jump during the finals. This left Doyle with a plate on his fibula and a 33 cm bar with 14 screws down the core of his shin bone. Despite this setback, Doyle made a full recovery. Timothy Shieff is an English freerunner. He won the ''Barclaycard World Freerun Championship'' in 2009 and participated on the television programme MTV's ''Ultimate Parkour Challenge''. He has also competed on ''American Ninja Warrior'' and ''Ninja Warrior UK''. Career Shieff won the 2009 ''Barclaycard World Freerun Championship'' and participated on the television programme MTV's Ultimate Parkour Challenge. Athletes for Hope is a nonprofit organization that works to educate professional athletes about philanthropy, connect them with charitable causes, recognize these efforts and inspire others to get involved in the community. AFH emphasizes that its focus is on the athlete's time and not their money.
