World Bowls Indoor Championships
The World Bowls Indoor Championships is bowls event inaugurated in 2019 by the organisations known as World Bowls and the International Indoor Bowls Council (IIBC). It is contested annually between bowlers from national bowls organisations. The competition is the rival event to the World Bowls Tour's blue riband event called the World Indoor Bowls Championships. In 2019, World Bowls came to an agreement with the IIBC (formerly the WIBC). The agreement was to merge their two international indoor championships, the World Cup Singles and the IIBC Championships. The new event would be called the World Bowls Indoor Championships. World Bowls
World Bowls is an international sport federation of Bowls. World Bowls is one of several bowls organisations that administer bowls around the world and is responsible for the sports premier event, the World Bowls Championship which historically was held every four years but from 2023 will take place every two years. The organisation was founded in 2001 in an attempt to unite some of the multiple bowls bodies running the sport. The founding was a merger of previous organisations; the World Bowls Board and the International Women's Bowling Board. In 2019, World Bowls came to an agreement with the International Indoor Bowls Council (IIBC), formerly the WIBC. Michael Stepney
Michael Stepney (born 1980) is a Scottish international indoor bowler. Bowls career He won the Scottish National Singles Championship in 2009 and the British Isles Singles Championship the following year. Kelsey Cottrell
Kelsey May Cottrell (born 31 May 1990) is an Australian international lawn bowler. Bowls career World Championships Outdoor Cottrell won three medals at the 2008 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Christchurch, New Zealand. Four years later she won the gold medal in the pairs competition with Rebecca Quail and a team gold at the 2012 World Outdoor Bowls Championship. Aron Sherriff
Aron Sherriff (born 29 October 1985) is an international Australian lawn and indoor bowler. Bowls career World Championship Outdoor Sherriff won the gold medal in the triples with Mark Casey, Brett Wilkie and Wayne Ruediger during the 2012 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Adelaide. 2023 World Bowls Indoor Championships
The 2023 World Bowls Indoor Championships took place at the Warilla Bowls & Recreation Club in Barrack Heights, New South Wales, Australia from 7 to 12 May 2023. The event was organised by World Bowls and the International Indoor Bowls Council (IIBC). The format of the Championships is one player representing each county in the singles and two in the pairs. A round robin will end with the top two in the singles progressing to the knock out rounds but only the group winner in the pairs progressing to the knock out round. Alison Merrien
Alison Jayne Merrien (born 28 November 1974) is an indoor bowls player from Saint Peter Port, Guernsey. Bowls career Indoors Merrien won double gold in the women's singles defeating Karen Murphy and the mixed pairs with Simon Skelton the 2011 World Indoor Bowls Championship. She won a third medal eight years later in 2019 losing out to Julie Forrest of Scotland in the final. In 2022, she finally claimed a third title when winning the mixed pairs with Paul Foster and also reached the women's singles final. In the southern hemisphere equivalent the World Cup Singles she has won two titles in 2008 and 2012 and has finished runner up on three more occasions. Stewart Anderson (bowls)
Stewart Anderson (born 23 July 1985) is a Scottish international bowls player and a world champion indoors. Bowls career He started bowling aged just 12 with Auchinleck Indoor Juniors and outdoor with Glaisnock Valley. Having previously been a beaten finalist in the 2010 World Championships (where he lost out to Greg Harlow) Anderson beat Paul Foster in the final match that ended 10-10, 10-9 to secure the 2013 World indoor title. In 2015 he won the triples gold medal at the Atlantic Bowls Championships. During the 2016 World Indoor Bowls Championship Anderson partnered up with Darren Burnett and the Scottish pair recorded their first Open Pairs title success. Julie Forrest
Julie Forrest (born 3 November 1968) is a Scottish bowls player. Bowls career Outdoors Julie has won three World Outdoor medals, a silver medal in the fours at the 2000 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Johannesburg and two bronze medals as part of the Scottish team that competed in the Taylor Trophy. She also competed at the 1996, 2000 and 2016. She was selected to represent Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in 1998 and also won the Scottish National Bowls Championships pairs title in 1988 and triples title in 1997 bowling for Hawick. The 2022 World Bowls Indoor Championships took place at County of Bristol IBC, Bristol, England, from 25 to 29 April 2022. The event was organised by World Bowls and the International Indoor Bowls Council (IIBC). The Championships are the inaugural edition because two attempts at holding the event in 2020 and 2021 were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
