World Bowl IX
World Bowl IX was the ninth championship game of the NFL Europe League. It was held at the Amsterdam Arena, Amsterdam ArenA in Amsterdam, Netherlands on June 30, 2001. The game was between the Barcelona Dragons (NFL Europe), Barcelona Dragons, who finished the season in first place with a record of 8–2, and the second-placed Berlin Thunder (NFL Europe), Berlin Thunder, which finished with a 6–4 record. 32,116 spectators witnessed Berlin's first World Bowl title, as the team pulled off an upset over the Dragons, with a final score of 24–17. Thunder quarterback Jonathan Quinn earned Most Valuable Player, MVP honors with his performance of 25 completions on 38 attempts for 308 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. It was the first World Bowl that didn't have the year that it was played in the title. Berlin Thunder (NFL Europe)
The Berlin Thunder were a professional American football team in NFL Europe. History The Thunder came into existence as an expansion team, after the London/England Monarchs franchise shut down operations, prior to the 1999 season. Home games from 1999 to 2002 were played at Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark and one game in 2006. Olympiastadion was the home stadium from 2003 to 2007. They were the second team in league history to use the Thunder name, following the Orlando Thunder from 1991 to 1992. The Thunder won the World Bowl 3 times: 2001, 2002 and 2004 (a year that they went 9–1). They also made it to the World Bowl in 2005 but were defeated by the Amsterdam Admirals 21–27. Two Berlin quarterbacks, Rohan Davey (2004) and Dave Ragone (2005), were named NFL Europe Offensive Most Valuable Players. Linebacker Rich Scanlon (2005) was named NFL Europe Defensive MVP. Dwaune Jones
Dwaune Jones (born July 11, 1977) is a retired American football wide receiver who is currently the Assistant Director of College Scouting for the Atlanta Falcons. While Jones never played in a regular season NFL game, he spent time in training camp with the Cleveland Browns, the Seattle Seahawks and the Houston Texans. In 2001, he played for the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe. During that season, he caught two long touchdown passes in World Bowl IX for the eventual champion Berlin Thunder. He played college football at the University of Richmond.
