Workers International To Rebuild The Fourth International
The Workers International to Rebuild the Fourth International (WIRFI) is a Trotskyist international organisation. It was formed and based in the United Kingdom and originally consisted of a remnant of the Workers Revolutionary Party. The organisation was founded in 1990 to regroup the international supporters of the Workers Revolutionary Party (Workers Press) WRP(WP), following the split of some of their supporters to join the International Workers League (Fourth International). Led by Cliff Slaughter and Dot Gibson, it initially had support in the Workers Revolutionary Party (Namibia) and a South African section which renamed itself WIRFI and took 5,481 votes in the 1994 South African general election, as well as Michel Varga's Group of Opposition and Continuity of the Fourth International. Workers International Vanguard League
The Workers International Vanguard League (WIVL) is a Trotskyist organisation in South Africa. It publishes ''Workers International News''. The group's origins lie in the underground Trotskyist Revolutionaries group, founded in 1985. In 1991, it became the South African section of the Workers International to Rebuild the Fourth International (WIRFI), and it finally became an open group when it stood candidates in the 1994 South African general election, winning 5,481 votes. In 1996, after a dispute about the conclusions to be drawn from the break-up of the WIRFI, the vast majority of members left to form the WIVL. As the remainder of the South African WIRFI group soon dissolved, the WIVL claims to be the successor to this organisation. The Socialist Alliance was a left-wing electoral alliance in England between 1999 and 2005. Origins The Socialist Alliance grew out of local alliances formed by the Socialist Party, Independent Labour Network and independent socialists from 1992 onward. They gradually coalesced into a national Network of Socialist Alliances. The Welsh Socialist Alliance was closely allied, but had separate origins. 1994 South African General Election
General elections were held in South Africa between 26 and 29 April 1994. The elections were the first in which citizens of all races were allowed to take part, and were therefore also the first held with universal suffrage. The election was conducted under the direction of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), and marked the culmination of the four-year process that ended apartheid. Workers Revolutionary Party (Namibia)
The Workers Revolutionary Party (WRP, from 2009 to 2014 named the Communist Party of Namibia) is a communist party in Namibia led by Attie Beukes and Harry Boesak. The party was founded by Attie Beukes in May 1989 as the Workers Revolutionary Party. It joined the United Democratic Front (UDF) alliance for participation in the 1989 elections.
