Woratep Rattana-umpawan
Woratep Rattana-umpawan (born August 1, 1969 in Bangkok) is a classical guitarist from Thailand. He is the founder of the Thailand Guitar Society and the Asia International Guitar Festival, Bangkok. Life Woratep Rattana-umpawan began his guitar lessons when he was 12. He was the First Prize Winner of the Yamaha Guitar Festival Competition in Bangkok for three consecutive years from 1985 to 1987. In 1987 he entered the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts at Chulalongkorn University and earned a B.A. with second-class honors in Western Music, majoring in Classical Guitar. With his talents and skills in performance, he was invited to play solo in the "Chao Phraya Concerto" composed by Prof. Bruce Gaston (musician), Bruce Gaston in 1993. Woratep was once again invited by one of the most famous musical institutions in Japan to perform in three recitals in April 2000. The classical guitar (also known as the nylon-string guitar or Spanish guitar) is a member of the guitar family used in classical music and other styles. An acoustic wooden string instrument with strings made of gut or nylon, it is a precursor of the modern acoustic and electric guitars, both of which use metal strings. Classical guitars derive from the Spanish vihuela and gittern of the fifteenth and sixteenth century. Bruce Gaston (musician)
Bruce Gaston (11 March 1946 or 1947 – 17 October 2021) was an American musician who lived in Thailand and helped pioneer a contemporary style of Thai classical music through the Fong Naam band, which he co-founded with Boonyong Ketkong and Jirapan Ansvananda. Bruce Gaston was born on 11 March 1946 or 1947 in Los Angeles, California. He studied music at the University of Southern California, obtaining a bachelor's degree in philosophy and a master's in music in 1969, before electing to work in Thailand under alternative service as a conscientious objector during the Vietnam War. He established a music education program at Payap College (now Payap University) in Chiang Mai, learned Thai classical music, and settled down in the country. He met National Artist Boonyong in 1979, and in 1981 they formed the Fong Naam band, which experimented with the classical tradition by blending in elements of Western electronic music, forming a new contemporary movement. Leon Koudelak
Leon Koudelak is a Czech classical guitarist. He has toured internationally in most parts of Europe, Asia and the Americas. He inspired the composer Michael Buchrainer to write guitar music. In addition to his concert career, he co-founded the Liechtenstein Guitar Festival (Ligita), the Asia International Guitar Festival (AIGF) in Bangkok and the Pattaya Classical Guitar Festival. For the XIV Festival Hispanoamericano de Guitarra, Manuel Zavala y Alonso described him as "La mano santa de la guitarra" ('the holy hand of the guitar'). In 1996 he released a CD with the major guitar solo works by Joaquin Rodrigo. Rodrigo wrote him a letter expressing great enthusiasm after listening to his CD about his interpretation. Conservatory Of Music, Rangsit University
The Conservatory of Music, Rangsit University or Wittayalaidontri ( th, วิทยาลัยดนตรี; literally: College of Music) is the third music school in Thailand, after Duliyangkasilp College, and Khanaduriyangkasart. It was established in 2002 by Arthit Ourairat, President of Rangsit University. Wittayalaidontri focuses solely on Western music, especially classical, contemporary and popular music. Wittayalaidontri does not offer Thai traditional music courses. History Prior to the conservatory, a student in Rangsit University could study music as an optional course at the Institute of Cultural Affairs, with Tanet Sriwong and Suwiwat Thitiwattanarat as their teachers. Antonio De Torres Jurado
Antonio de Torres Jurado (13 June 1817 – 19 November 1892) was a Spanish guitarist and luthier, and "the most important Spanish guitar maker of the 19th century." It is with his designs that the first recognisably modern classical guitars are to be seen. Most acoustic guitars in use today are derivatives of his designs. Biography Antonio de Torres was the son of Juan Torres, a local tax collector, and Maria Jurado. As was common, when he was 12 he started an apprenticeship as a carpenter. In 1833, a dynastic war broke out, and soon after Torres was conscripted into the army. Through his father's machinations, young Antonio was dismissed as medically unfit for service.
