Woody Woodpecker is an animated character that appeared in theatrical short films produced by the Walter Lantz Studio and distributed by Universal Studios between 1940 and 1972. Woody, an anthropomorphic woodpecker, was created in 1940 by Lantz and storyboard artist Ben "Bugs" Hardaway, who had previously laid the groundwork for two other screwball characters, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, at the Warner Bros. cartoon studio in the late 1930s. Woody's character and design evolved over the years, from an insane bird with an unusually garish design to a more refined looking and acting character in the vein of the later Chuck Jones version of Bugs Bunny. Woody was originally voiced by prolific voice actor Mel Blanc, who was succeeded in the shorts by Danny Webb, Kent Rogers, Dick Nelson, Ben Hardaway, and, finally, Grace Stafford (wife of Walter Lantz). ''Woody Woodpecker'' is the first animated cartoon short subject in the ''Woody Woodpecker'' series. Released theatrically on July 7, 1941, the film was produced by Walter Lantz Productions and distributed by Universal Pictures. This is the second appearance of Woody Woodpecker; his debut was in an Andy Panda cartoon, '' Knock Knock''. The working title of this cartoon is 'Cracked Nut'. Plot The inhabitants of the forest that Woody Woodpecker ( Mel Blanc) lives in have started spreading the word that Woody is crazy, due to all of his screwball antics. ''Woody Woodpecker'' (also known as ''Woody Woodpecker: The Movie'') is a 2017 American 3D live-action/computer-animated slapstick comedy film directed by Alex Zamm, based on the cartoon character of the same name created by Walter Lantz. The film stars Timothy Omundson, Graham Verchere, Jordana Largy and Thaila Ayala, and features Eric Bauza as the voice of Woody Woodpecker. The film's plot follows Woody protecting his forest from a real estate lawyer planning to build an investment house in his habitat. While ''Woody Woodpecker'' was filmed in English, it was only released theatrically in the Latin American market, which the film catered to and where the character remains popular. ''Woody Woodpecker'' is an American animated web series starring the cartoon character of the same name created by Walter Lantz. The series premiered on YouTube on December 3, 2018. In 2020, Woody Woodpecker and Wally Walrus appeared in a series of PSAs. On October 21, 2020, a trailer for a second season was released; the season premiered on October 28. On November 4, 2022, a trailer for a third season was released; the season premiered on November 6, 2022. The tenth episode of the third season of 2022, titled "Space Track", for some reason was not published on the official Woody Woodpecker channel on Youtube.
